I tried to exorcize my generator, but the demons keep coming back!

(I think it's spelled exercise, but I'm not that good of a speller).

I'm not afraid to take anything apart.
I am sometimes afraid I'm not going to get it back together.

The 8/1 I got from Gary (which I admit I haven't started yet) came with a hollow dipper and a standard (grooved) big-end bearing. What would be the benefit of a grooved bearing vs a solid bearing?

Cheers!

I hate reading long posts, so I just attached a link to an excellent article on bearing boundary layer fluid lubrication. The relevant part is almost to the very bottom titled: "Fluid Lubrication". I really liked the illustration of the bearing journal, really makes the point for solid upper bearing shells.
