I just ran onto this. It must be one efficient outboard. I know it is not made for our purpose but it is a Changfa type diesel. I can't think of a better way to show off the little R175 Diesel. I wonder how much this outboard can push.
Henry
Henry,
I love it !
I have been looking for a diesel outboard (or small inboard) for a small boat I'm getting.
That Changfa would be ideal for me.
If anyone knows where I can get one....let me know.
Henry, please post the site address where you found this.
Cheers,
Veggie
Hello Veggie,
Here you go. http://www.fuchai.com/docc/product.aspx?key=9&typeid=11
Here are the specs: http://www.fuchai.com/docc/ShowCs.aspx?key=9
Henry
I bet a person has to order 20 of these to make the shipment worthwhile for the manufacturer.
Nice little gem. Too bad they're so far away. >:(
Veggie
Oh well ! I guess I'll have to settle for dropping my Listeroid 6/1 into a boat.
Like this guy........

Wow,
I hope he has lots of ballest. It seems like it could be a little top heavy.
An R175 would work good in somthing like what he has.
It sure is an nice displacement hull boat that he has.

You never know,
Email them.
Are you close to canada?
Henry
Very cool... but 4 HP in a 105 kg package????!!! I hope there's something wrong with that spec! That's 231 pounds! I don't think it will fit on the canoe... ;D
I have a 1952 3HP Evinrude Lightwin I rebuilt a few years ago - it weighs 31 pounds!
Henry,
I am in Canada, do you think that would make a difference?
Veggie
Hello Cognos,
It would be used as a pusher for displacement hulls. I had 4 hp British Seagull and it was designed to be used as a pusher for displacement hulls. The gearing is different on pusher engines compaired to engines used for getting plaining hulls out of the water. The British Seagull was had more pushing ability than my 8 hp yamaha.
I guess they would use them on fishing boats and barges.
Yea at 231 pounds it would be too heavy for most of our boats here in the US and Canada.
But it is still cool. I guess if I could get one it would work fine no a barge made out of logs lashed together :D
Hello Veggie,
My guess the cost would probably be to much to import to Canada. Unless you are willing to shell out the bucks for shipping. By the time your done you can have a nice 4 stroke outboard set up with everything you need for your boat. Including an engine that is designed to push.
Yanmar used to import diesel outboards in the US but they were HEAVY and cost to much.
Don"t you have leaner laws in Canada? I thought it would be ok to import things like that engine north of us.
A small tug would be cool. What size are you thinking of?
Henry
Henry:
veggie already has the perfect engine for a barge, his 6/1!!!
he can just strap it down, take it out to sea, and pull the bilge plug!!!
hahaha
:)
bob g
hey veggie, remember to wear a life jacket
OK Bob,
In case you didn't notice, I had changed my Icon back to a Changfa just for you!
But after that remark you left me no choice.....LISTER >:(
You are now on probation with the Changfa section.
Only by sending a complete 195 gasket set (c/w new piston rings) to all Changfa owning members can you redeem youself. ;D
Veggie
Hey Veggie,
Were not the ones that jumped ship and decided to go to the dark side. :o The the S195 will absolutly destroy a 6/1 in a flat out barge drag race ;D The 6/1 has little peanuts compaired to the balls of an S195. One thing for sure you have one great anchor ;D
Henry
Hey ! .....two against one ! No fair.......
Henry, aren't you the one who went and bought a CAT? Where's your loyalty to Changfa? ;)
( oh yes...and don't forget your Fairbanks Morse???)
Can we assume you will be dumping the CAT and the Fairbanks? ;)
Veggie
Haha, I had the Fairbanks for over 16 years. Pulled it off the side of the street and cleaned it up. Used it when hurricane Fran went through. Had no power for almost 2 weeks and that thing did not miss a beat. They don't make 3600 RPM generators like that anymore.
As for the Cat I will be making a portable unit out of it. It still won't have the balls of an S195 though. The Cat is a toy I just had to get.
The S195 will still be my primary.
No I won't be dumping any. Right now the Fairbanks is just sitting in a corner just waiting to be abused. Anyways I think its good to have a gas powered backup genset.
Its ok we understand it will take some time to get over Listeroid 6/1 Dependency Syndrome. They look and sound cute but just don't have it when you need to run a 7000 watt load. :-X
And what about leaving Jens on the side. I thought you should stay with the ones that support you. ;)
Henry
Jens,
Not to worry. Didn't think you would want to be dragged into the Changfa section "in-fighting". ;)
Your support is appreciated.
Henry...
All I see is a lot of excuses and back-peddling ! ;D
You bought a CAT after you had a Changfa.....I bought a Lister after I had a changfa. ;) (actualy 3 changfa's)
Watch your back.....Bob will be going after you next :D
Cheers,
Veggie
Yes I admit that I bought the Cat after My first S195.
But 2 Weeks after I purchased the Cat I purchased another S195. :-X
O I don't think I need to watch my back. Bob and I look out for each other here. That is what S195 owners are suppose to do. 8) And all I can tell you we have secret projects and testing going on.
Oh, you are right I have no loyalty to Changfa. I have specialy preped High Performance S195's ;D
No! Please.....not the secret testing !
Ok I'll buy another 195. Will that be enough ! :D
Veggie
Great to here it.
I think everyone will welcome you back. :D
Henry
But I see one slight problem that needs to be taken care of so you will fit in with the group. Your Picture 8)

Ahhh, but that's the result of some cruel words from Bob (something about drowning my 6/1 ?)
Only Bob can fix that one! :D
(I may have a solution....give me a few hours) ;)

Try to get a Direct Injected S195.
Henry
Ok Henry.....
How's this ?

Veggie
Ahhhh, I can live with that. At least the Changfa is in front.
Henry
I think it's a great (and diplomatic) picture. :D
Don't forget, I won't pick sides....... I love both of these beauties.
Yes the Changfa is in front, but the 6/1 stands tall overlooking all others.
I consider myself in the fortunate position of having both!
Cheers,
Veggie
Jens, with all due respect.....they won't fit side by side in the space allowed.
There you go!
Can hardly see them there engines ! >:(
Veggie
boy veggie, it looks like you are really desperate,, you didn't tell us your changfa starter gave up?
pretty bad when you got to use a 6/1 as a pony motor for your changfa
:)
bob g
Guys,
What do you expect. It makes sense to have the troubled engine up front. The last thing you want to do is step over the hard working S195 that has to constantly pick up the slack. :)
Henry
I've seen these on several cargo canoes here in Lake Victoria (in Uganda). They are very fuel efficient, using about 1/4 the fuel that a 24hp Evinrude uses. And yes, these canoes are displacement hul, and have been in use for over 50 years here.
I managed to trade an Evinrude I had in the shop for one of these. It's now in my new Changfa-triple nickle setup.
Hardy Diesel used to sell those outboards 12-15 years ago. And yes, they advertised that they were designed to push a small barge. I thought about buying one at the time, but they were right around $1000. I'm pretty sure the EPA jumped right on that and banned them. If they hadn't, they would probably be selling on ebay for under $500 by now.
