It's that time of year again.  Where you commit to one project or 17.

What's on the top of your list?

I've gotten absorbed in converting the swimming pool to a swimming pond.  Kiss my bank card poison sellers and electricity hackers.  I'm going gravel filters and air powered lift pumps.  As in all major capital investment toys "Do No Harm" is the foundation of the project.  Should some silly person want to purchase this part of Eden they can always go back to the money lenders.  I'm thinking the smarter use of energy is one of the pillars of this site.

Ok, I've shown you mine.  How about a look at yours?

Literally have so much I want to do and have to contend with this year I don't have a clue as to where I'll end up with it. I'm sure there will be a lot of things I never even thought of at this point.

First thing is Daughters 21st in a couple of weeks. I have been thinking of that as a hurdle to get out the way then I can relax but then I realise I have an inquest and a court case not long after. I have no idea what is in store for me with that but I imagine it to be nothing short of hell on earth all over again.   From then on things get blurry. mate wants me to go and visit him interstate for the Christening of his daughter so I can be god father. maybe I'll talk him into finding someone decent instead in the mean time.  I'm working already on getting the lister going and sorted again and have to get the new one.  Looking to get a tractor and get the place more the way I want it which  is scrape away most of the gardens here and replant them to look decent.

Going to extend the shed 1 bay each side and put in a bathroom so when we have the kitchen and bathrooms down here done, the tradies can use up there instead of our bathroom or ensuite.
Have to buy a lot of new furniture for the house and paint it inside and out. New patio out the back, put in an outdoor kitchen and build myself another Pizza oven which I have sorely missed last couple of years.

My Dad wants to sell up where he is so around the middle of the year on top of a lot of other stresses and grief will be finding a new home for him and moving him into it. Going to have to put my estate agents hat on again and sell his place like I did my own because the agents up there are complete slack arsed morons. Takes years to sell a house up there, I need to get him out and resettled in months. He's not getting any younger or healthier and the closer I can get him to me so I can look after him and keep an eye on things the better.  I don't think the place he has as nice and very well maintained as it is will cover the area he wants to go and the sort of place he wants so hardest job of all will probably be convincing him to let me put in whatever extra he needs for the new place.   Pretty much begged him to come live with us and I'll build him a house on the block or he can move nearby.

He's not having it. too many bad memories for him in the city he reckons even though I'm only 2.5 hours closer to it than him now. I'll be able to take him to the Doctors and any specialists he needs or I want him to see not have to make appointments months ahead to see some complete and utter quack.  I have connections in the medical game here and I'll make sure Dad is checked out from head to toe, as much as I can hear him kicking and screaming about that. I'm worried he has something wrong with him he's not telling me atm so I want to get to the bottom of it.
Hopefully I can get my own issues sorted out as well at some point.

I'm going to start my business back up again this year. Not sure why, sure as hell won't be bored or looking for something to do, probably to prove to myself I haven't lost it all together yet. had to quit it when I got sick so it's sort of something unfinished to me. I want to stop on my terms not because of health issues I beyond my control.
Towards the end of the year we want to go back up north for another holiday like we went on a couple of months ago that caused so much consternation at my absence.
This year though I'll treat my mrs to the best over the top hotel in the place which she liked so much and take her to all the attractions she wanted to see now we have had a chance to sus it all out.
That's going to be the goal for the business, make enough to pay for that holiday so we can spoil ourselves rotten and without a 2nd thought.

2018 Sounds like too much work and stress, can we skip it all together and just go to 2019 and have a rest?

Keep us updated on that.

Friend and I had a few attempts at that. His father designed and made Fuges before he retired.  He told us it's way harder than it looks.

With a number of spectacular failures where things self destructed in a violent manner ( which we had the good sense to only use water for the test run rather than oil)  we put that idea aside and my mate bought one.
Was one of those little spinner type ones, forget the name now but they were made just down the road from me.

Wouldn't recommend them. The little jets block if the oil isn't pretty clean to start with. Yeah they get things real clean from there but as a test we spun up some oil I had processed as normal in my filtering setup. Had to wipe the bowl with a finger to see what it got out after an inordinate amount of spin time.  As my mate said, what it did get out was all sub micron and would go through a filter and any internals anyway being finer than commercial fuel is filtered to.
Thing also did nothing for drying so in the end it was just used for spinning the glyc out of bio which it did ok but not great either.

I'd suggest the one to go for is a bowl type although they aren't perfect either.
My settling and filter/ dry setup has done me well for over 10 years now. Only buy 3-4 of the household type water filters a year  for about $8 ea and get on average about 2500L out of them before I change them out of paranoia.

1. Finish the woodshed/boiler room/genny shed and get the mechanicals up and running!

2. Dammit!!!  Stabilize the house and find a way to stop/slow the sinkhole that decided to open up 2 feet away from the foundation.
The plans could or will involve piers to solid soil or bedrock and digging out the sinkhole as far as possible up to and including moving the house to another lot I own.
I am tired of drama, a nice boring year or two would be nice.

You have no idea how much I share that thought!
