In early November, I'll be doing a call center expo in Orlando (mmm, exciting.... not), we need to use a big (50" or more) TV for 3 days, and the hire company want $600 for the pleasure...

We're thinking, spend $400 and buy one; then sell it on before we fly back to the UK for say $300....

So, does anyone in/near Orlando fancy a cheap TV? PM me if you're interested...

Cheers,
Ade.

When you find 50 inch TVs for $400 let us all know where.

I'm just going on what I was told.... haven't done the research myself.

Your just in luck because my wife and I been looking at 40" TV's.
If you need a 50" you can find a 50" Plasma on sale for around $450.00 if you look.

My wife and I are staying away from plasma TV's. We are looking into a SAMSUNG Backlit LED for around $600.00

If you go with an LCD or LED 50" you might want to look into one with a 120Hz refresh rate. 60 Hz refresh rates are known to be slow at times.

This is why I would recommend a cheap plasma for about the same money.

We have a LED backlit 42" TV and it is awesome and uses about 1/10th the power as a regular LCD.

That is one reason I am going with a Backlit LED Flat screen.

I live in the land of 43 cent power hence power ratings usages are important so.

With my Kill A Watt in hand I visited the local Costco.

The 55 inch Plasma pulled 370 watts.

The 60 inch LCD pulled 180 watts.

The 60 inch LED pulled 90+ watts.
The other 60 inch LED pulled 130 watts.
Both were Sharp systems.  Last years model was $60 more and pulled the higher wattage.

My Sony rear projection big boy idles at about 180 but it takes almost 300 watts to finish off the death star.

When I can get a Smart 60 or + LED for a grand I'm jumping in.  Read the reviews.  I read some on a Westinghouse 65 incher sold at Kmart that curled my toes.

Our TV is on at least 5 hours a day or 25 cents per day per 100 watts.  That's something like $2 a week (nothing - don't bother me with the math) or $100 a year (huh, that's half it's price in 5 years).  Or as my neighbor says " It's costing you $100 a year to watch the tired Sony big screen - it's your money.  It's that little stuff that'll run up your leg and bite you right on the wallet.

Just so you know AdeV I used to rent a big screen to trade show people.  $350 a week with delivery and pick-up.  What's going to hold your unit up?  Power sources can really be crap at trade shows so a real UPS might be a smart investment for who-ever you do your TV program with.  I'm smelling projector and on the plane back home with you.

If it flies or floats - Rent It!  I believe I've heard trade show folks mention other categories they might include in this broad generalization.  Pun intended.

Thanks for all the replies :)

We've been quoted $600 for 3 days rental of a 50", I don't know if that's plasma or lcd/led. We have a 500watt power allocation, that will have to run a couple of laptops, a TV and a receiver + any additional lighting we put up.
Cheers!

You might need to look at an LED or an efficent LCD 50" in order to meet the 500watt power allocation.

LowGear

$600 for three days is robbery.  Do some shopping.  The trade show hosts (sponsors) or facilities management people should have good referrals.

Plasmas also weigh much much more than LCD units regardless if they're florescent or LED.
