Howdy from NC.
Justa lil info on myself and my current project.
I retired from the Army after 20 yrs as a helicopter mechanic. Since then I have been working mostly on construction equipment. Had a short stint as a power generation tech for a global company but the travel became too intense. I now work for a John Deere dealership as a technician.
My current project involves a Yanmar 3tnv70 engine. My goal is to couple this up to a 7.5 to 10k gen head and provide backup power. I also have plans to belt drive an air compressor off of an electric clutch to use as needed. All this will be housed in an enclosed trailer. Exhaust fans will provide air exchange within the container while running. I am also thinking about having 8 6v batteries in the trailer hooked up in series/parrell to provide 24v. Then thru an invertor to provide silent a/c power when needed. Any thoughts or help as I go along with this project will be appreciated.

Forget parallel strings - easy to get out of balance, and ruin the whole batch.  Look at same batteries in a 48v all series configuration, same watt hour storage, but less losses in the wires (half the amps and copper heating).

Batteries in series are much more robust. Long article with the math here:

If you must parallel them - do it correctly, on the Diagonal.

For air cond, look at the Sanyo Mini-Split systems, they have internal mini-inverters for the motors and pumps, very efficient.

Welcome Mike. What do you plan to use this trailer for? I'm planning to add an air compressor to my generator soon too.

The trailer will mearly be a dry safe place to house the generator and ancillary items. Also will make moving it easy.
