Can a 3/4" shaft handle 10-12kw?

QuoteIf you're rectifying it to DC then those needs may not exist... Posted by: LowGear

Most batteries have a maximum ripple spec - one may need to dig to find it, or it may be a general spec across all the OEM product line but it exists.

Having quick transient spikes riding on a DC voltage is as bad or worse than an ugly AC waveform, well that if feeding anything but a welding rod or resistance heaters blah blah...

Thanks Bob.
I had figured 1.33hp/kw so my power calculation was quite a bit lower at 16 horses per 12kw. However that being said, I am sure that 3/4" can hold the 70 lbs you came up with. I guess we will know in a few days as I'm going for it.
Thanks again.

70 ft-lbs of torque ....  I don't have machinery's handbook with me at the moment, but I believe a 3/4" shaft can handle that much torque with ease, and be able to stand up to the dynamic loads as well.

The stock (splined) input shaft on a Ford C-4 automatic is only about 3/4"-7/8" in diameter.

It must be pretty tough steel.... my last twin-turbo 351W powered drag race Mustang was making over 800 ft pounds of torque through the stock input shaft with no failures.

The project is well underway. Jack shaft turned down to 3/4 inch on one end to accept the flexshaft from the crank. Pillow blocks aligned and set on purchase. Generator head and frame lined up with belt and tractor. All is looking hopeful. Still have to service tractor engine, replace fuel filter and housing.
Still trying to figure out how to get the hot coolant from the engine for heating our floor. The only place I can find to tap into the system is where the thermostat bypass hose is. There is a drain on the block to return the coolant to.
Pictures are pending.
