Hi all,

I have been busy, and just enough time to stop in and read a post or 2 now and then. I found these gens by accident, but it sure could be an easy in for a bat charger...If there is a source..and the output is as claimed.

Anybody seen one of these in real life?

BIG PROBLEM!!!Alibaba is a known rip off site, Thousands of people are still waiting for thier products to arrive from Alibaba affiliated companies.

Not to drift too far from the subject of this thread.  How do I create 3+ KW of 300 to 350 volt DC?  I've got a Witte I'd like to run at about 700 to 900 max RPM.

Planning to go nuts with the outdoor Christmas lights this year Casey?  ;D

How much torque & hp do you have from that engine at that speed?

Christmas lights - Bah Humbug.  I'm thinking about feeding the DC into my inverter during the hours of darkness at the same voltage as the PV panels supplies at high noon.

Torque I don't know about but here's the engine and factory generator plates.  I'm not fixated on this generator it just happens to be the one supplied with the unit back in 1952.

Casey,

Use that Witte gen head.  Take the 240 VAC out through a bridge rectifier and into a CLC filter with a massive output filter capacitor.  You will get around 330 VDC. Perfect and you don't have to buy a DC gen head.

Hi RACVICTIM,

I have been toying with the idea of finding a three phase to do about this same thing with only expecting a much cleaner or truer DC.  You're saying that I'm caught up in over-kill as usual?  This generator has no output according to the person that sold it to me.  If I can't get it to work would you recommend staying with the single phase as a replacement?

Now that you've shown me the carrot where would I go shopping for a well built bridge rectifier and CLC filter with a massive output filter capacitor?  I have a search for a three phase rectifier on Ebay but only get these puny little plastic boxes with cute spade connectors on the top and I'm going "These will handle 3 to 6 KW?"

If you have to purchase a new gen head and want to rectify it then yes, buy a 3-phase head.  The required capacitors can be smaller value for the same ripple performance in a 3-phase system versus a single phase.  The amp rating on the diodes will be less as well.  Getting a suitable choke might be expensive.  I'm sure Hammond has something in the catalog.  A power supply this size will require proper engineering.

Do your solar panels go into a charge controller and then batteries, or what?  Do you backfeed the grid?  If so what is the rating of your grid-tie inverter? How many amps and volts are you processing in DC from your solar array now in the strongest sun?

I'll take a stab at designing a supply once I have some good numbers.

I'm on another but very similar thread with bob g.  http://www.microcogen.info/index.php?topic=1324.msg15369#msg15369  Man it sounds complicated.  I'd really like to go into Sears or something and buy a unit off the shelf.

I have a Sunny Boy 6000 grid tie inverter that needs 350 DC for liftoff but can cruise at 300.  No batteries.  I'm plugging it in tomorrow so I'll have some real numbers for you then.

I'm still alive.

Yeah, but what about LowGear, he was the one plugging things in...

I did hear a bang last Wednesday, but apparently that was an explosive device they found at the local tip, not LowGear achieving orbital potential...
Cheers!

It's alive.

I just turned the inverter on for the third time and it worked.  Slightly hazy so its pooping out about 2 KW at around 375 volts off a 15 panel array of SolarWorld SW245 panels.  Once I get some real data and see what the solstice does I'll decide on another 15 or so panels.  I may step back to 2 X 14 so I keep beneath the maximum rating for the Sunny Boy 6000.

Now out to the Witte and prepare for tomorrows smoke test.
