Wow, lots of emotional grabs there! Conspiracy theory abounds. Absolutely nothing though on how it might physically be accomplished. They really want to help you, so send them some money. If you like, you can send me the money and I can tell you how you could put a small diesel into a vehicle, air the tires to 60 psi, drive 40 MPH  on level ground; 100% guaranteed! Problem is you cannot do it legally and most people would like much greater performance potential.

Rolling resistance and air resistance decreases can make a bit of difference but the internal combustion engine still looses close to 2/3 of the energy to lost heat. That loss can be whittled away at slightly (and has been) but I dont think any practically great gain is available like what is suggested.

Another typical scam.

$3.00 a gallon!  :o

That's about £0.50 per litre. Our pump price for regular unleaded (which isn't quite as watery as US unleaded, I think ours is 95RON as standard) is £1.16 typically. Per litre. That's $6.50 per US gallon as near as makes bugger all difference.

At $3/gal, you should be stockpiling...  ::)
Cheers!

It's not a scam, per se, but it is highly misleading and a tad exaggerated. The suggestion is you'll get like-for-like performance with better fuel economy. Whereas what you're actually getting is much less performance for better fuel economy... plus, you're changing to diesel, which has ALWAYS given better economy - at the expense, in road vehicles, of higher weight and less usable power.

Now that they're able to make aluminium diesel engines - which cures a lot of the weight issues - alongside a turbocharger or two to improve the power output, diesels are MUCH better than they used to be. A typical mid-sized diesel car here in the UK will return 50+mpg, and some of the small cars are knocking on the door of 100mpg. Although you do lose some mod cons for that kind of economy - namely size, style, comfort, driving pleasure.... Interestingly, petrol cars are also pushing the high 30's to mid 40's MPG, depending on size/style. But then, it probably helps that most of our cars aren't shaped like bricks.... The bigger gallon helps too... 50mpg (uk gallon) is only 41.6mpg (US gallon)...
Cheers!

Yes, not entirely a scam but misleading to say the least. I drive a VW diesel and my son and wife each have one too as they commute lots of miles daily. No question they pay their way.

Repowering a gas engined vehicle with a diesel has been around for lots of years but to do it legally is almost impossible. If you do get nabbed......... well the fine would pay for a lot of gasoline!

My main objection to that type of article is the one sidedness of it and the obvious appeal to emotionalism. Purely marketing for plans that would be redundant anyways to anyone who actually had the mechanical and financial capability of doing it.

actually I run 70 psi and drive 42mph. RUG. approaching 100mpg.

Not the forum for it but I can provide some links, No BS and nothing to sell.

I read it. Drivel. It's always someone else's fault, a giant conspiracy to screw reglar' folks outta their hard earned cash...

It's really very simple...

Want to save money on  fuel? Use less of it, drive less, drive an appropriately sized vehicle.
Want to make profits like the evil oil companies? Buy their shares. Then, you even get a voice in how the company is run. You can go to the shareholder's meetings and demand that they stop making so much money, and paying it to you as dividends.
The world would be a better place if this simple advice were followed.

Or - you can move to a country where the price of oil and fuel is regulated by the government... enjoy your time in Cuba or Venezuela...

I used to help run the tower at a local racetrack on club days. The guys in the Porsche and BMW clubs etc. would rent the track, then complain loudly about the price of premium, let alone racing fuel... reallllly... I felt bad for them... ;D
As they changed their Mobil 1 at the end of the day, and poured it into the used oil tank...

If these guys are selling plans to switch out a diesel for a gas engine, why not just say so, and leave out the hyperbole? It kills any credibility they might have, otherwise...

Just my opinion...  ;D

My exact opinion too........ :)

Strange, people hate you for telling them the truth but so readily pay to be deceived! Here is a clip from some of the encouraging hype. He doesn't discuss anything at all about the safety, liability, or legalities involved; shade tree indeed! He does mention that a "simple electric pump provides vacuum for the brakes"

" but about three years ago, an encounter with a woman at a local gas station convinced him that the time was right to pursue his dream.

The woman's lengthy commute from her home in Reynolds to her job in Macon was consuming most of her disposable income. Child care got most of the rest.

"Tears were streaming down her face," Brown said. "She was barely making anything. I came home and told my wife, 'Let's do it.' "

Brenda Brown was an enthusiastic supporter from the get-go."

"I've got faith in him," she said.

mom and apple pie, huh?

geesh, its almost unamerican (or uncanadian, or un-fill in the blank) to not jump on board with this guys hype!

or at least that is how he is trying to make it.

got to give him credit for salesmanship, i wonder if his day job is as a used car salesman?

"woman with tears steaming down her face"  paaaleeeeeeze!

i am sure there are lots of such folks living under the stress of not making enough money to live, but to use the story to
promote a product just seems to much like a political add. we all know the type, such as parading an endless stream of folks
that are in horrible physical shape up on stage while trying to promote a healthcare bill.

either the plan stands on its own merits or it don't, save all the tear jerking testimonials.

(this has probably been going on since the beginning of time)

Bob, I am perhaps a bit oversensitive to any signs of manipulation. Dad I guess instilled that in me. I am sure that you are correct about it being around since the beginning of time. In every area of our life we are being exposed to the same kind of pulls to action that really are for someone else's benefit, not ours.

The thing is that today we are exposed to the work of professionals at pulling on heartstrings. The media imprints us with icons and emotional triggers that often motivate us subconsciously. Icons, sybmolism, and ritual make my hair bristle because I know I am being "worked" by them. It is so pervasive that it is hard to know when you are being objective or when some kind of created subjectivity is actually influencing our actions and opinions.

"Dah?"

Like the hydrogen generators, if this thing really worked they'd be in Wal-Mart.

Hey, I have a 4 cyl air cooled diesel of about 60 hp without a home. Wanna put it in a half ton Chevy and see what happens?
No wait, I had a Nissan with a 4cyl 60hp diesel, the performance was dismal, the fuel mileage was somewhere in the high 20's or
low 30's. Seems like I already tried it, except the Chevy would be heavier, and have worse aerodynamics.
I can't see 40 or 50 mpg. Well, maybe if I drove 45 on a straight, flat road.

Hmm, has anyone considered asking them if they've got some plans available for fitting a Lister(oid) engine into a truck? I mean, think how frugal the Lister is, and turn that into mileage using their formula (whatever it is), I bet it comes out in the 100s...!
Cheers!
