Here's a neat little setup for starting flywheel engines...

Small Gas Engine---->centrifugal clutch--->chain drive --->trailer wheel--->Flywheel

All on a pivot base.

Hi Veggie,

I wish they had shown start-up with the drive wheel getting pushed against the flywheel.  You may have read that I was pretty "bummed" about how much "butt power" it takes to start the Witte I just bought.  This looks like they have a gas engine geared down some to a rubber tire that can be applied against the flywheel which did have some black scuffing around its outer edge.

I spoke to David at Wittemania and he contends that the larger Witte doesn't run any smoother than mine but that it's just so damned heavy it can't jump around like mine does.

Casey,
Perhaps you should make a project of it!  Like you need another project :-)
Build a gasoline pony engine for your Witte.
