ok folks, we got the ability to download .pdf files now
or at least get them to link in your posts

lets keep them in the white paper section so we can control them to some
extent, the file size is limited to 500kb and i have no idea how much space
we could use up here with such files before we encounter problems,

still learning the ropes here,

if anyone has a special interest pdf file that is larger than the limit set
please let me know and we may make an exception for it, on a case by case
basis.  preference will be given for files containing information that applies to
a broad segment of the membership.

Thank you Admin, I'll try it out soon. I do think though that especially engine manuals might be a bit bigger than half a meg.

If someone don't already know, its easy to turn any document (TXT, DOC, exec) to a PDF file.
One must install a "software printer" or "PDF Printer" on your computer and you then chose to print it from whatever program your file is opened in, just like printing it out to a normal printer.

There's lots of them, personally I use BullZip Free PDF Printer from here 4Meg (No adds or pop-ups):
http://www.bullzip.com/
Most of them does however use the GPL Ghostscript program (7Mb) that must also be downloaded, but is also free. There is usually a link to the download page for it on each "flavor" of the "front-end" programs.

Hope this might help someone in the future.

There's another way to make PDFs, which is especially useful if you have a Microsoft Word document (with headings & stuff): Download the free OpenOffice suite. It's a big download, but worth persevering with. Once you've installed it, you'll find you can open your Word document, and extract it to a PDF file. The real bonus is, you get all the headings as bookmarks :)

That option won't really work for you, however, if you've got an older computer, or limited hard disk space; it's not exactly a small & lightweight app...
Cheers!

Attaching PDF's is working better. Thanks for expanding the limit size.
