Hello, I hope Deutz talk is okay in this forum  ;). I originally purchased this engine to couple with a 1800 rpm Stamford Generator head when I lived in South Carolina when everything I had was electric, heat pumps, backup 10kw electric heat element etc.... (cheap southern electricity)

Have since moved back up north (Vermont) and have mostly gas appliances now with oil heat. The engine is now more then I think I need, I was thinking of slowing the engine down to 1200 RPM and mating it was a smaller 12kw or so 1200 rpm head. Would there be any issues running this engine at this peed? Here is a link to a gen set with the same engine, a page or two down there are pretty good specs on the engine, fuel consumption etc... http://www.generatorjoe.net/html/broad/BCIX-021D103.pdf
Here is the unit:

SAE 5 housing. I don't have a pic of the generator I have but I'm sure you can imagine it :)

Jens, I'll bet that the lines are all the same length, but the position on the pump moves them around, the extra has to go somewhere, and there was more room on the off side. Just my .02.
RJ, I was not aware of a 1200 rpm head, got any pics or links? I would be interested.

Ron,

I stand corrected I it's a Marathon head I was thinking of.... and it's a marathon head that I have. You can get them in single and double bearing:

Apparently these engines where designed by Lister.

It would make a great CHP project for prolonged power outages which we get from time to time....

Nice! Now I know why I didn't know about them, they are 'way above my pay grade.
About $5400 more that my 12kw ST head.  :o
It would run FOREVER, I expect.

I have had several price quotes for just over 2k for the end. Don't get me wrong that's still a big chunk of change. I have a ST-12 as well and it does well for the most part,  it's currently direct drive to a D905 Kubota currently (good for about 8kw). I got such a deal on the Deutz I couldn't say "no". Now I just need to build a good home for it. This project is still on the back burner for now though. If I can find a cheaper 6 pole head I would be all over it as well. I just hate hearing an engine screaming away at 1800 RPM with only  25-30% load on it all the time, and that's what this engine would be doing for the most part.

I posted a reply after jens and it isnt there.... WTF?

I'm pretty sure you could run it at 1500 rpm, that's speed they run in europe (where this is made) for 50 hz power. should take nothing  more than an adjustment at minimum or a spring change at maximum.

50 hz will cause some issues :D I wonder if at 1200 RPM it will be responsive enough with the mechanical gov, or if I would need to move to an electronic gov.

50Hz wil cause less issues than you think- most induction motors will run fine, and most power supplies can handle it.
