I've been trying to do some research on the history of the Changfa type engines.
There were more than 5.5 million of them made in China last year, and they have been making them for decades.
This engine has had a phenomenal effect on the industrialization of China and therefore a phenomenal effect on the state of the planet today (given that China is such a massive manufacturing powerhouse). Yet I still can't find any information about the history of the engine. I've been googling for weeks and have even been googling in Chinese (using googles translate facility), but still haven't found anything.

Does anybody know anything about the history of these engines?

near as i can tell the design was taken from the japanese kubota, which was taken from an ealier german design
when japan and germany were allies in ww2

no i can't prove the lineage, but it seems as plausible of an explanation as any i have heard.

Bob,

Well that's a start. We should be able to find something similar searching on Kubota history.
