what a beauty, i found it on craigslist it was a take out from a house where an old couple had installed it
and ran it for 6 years before the new owners with a houseful of kids found it too small for there needs
and had it replaced.

i got it for a healthy discount from new, and it looks like it is new

came complete with the electronic aquastat and is ready to become an integral part of my trigenerator

more to follow soon as i can get it plumbed into my heat exchanger loops

I'm sure it's very nice, but what the heck is it ???

Aquastat?  Sounds like an alternate name for a Jethro Tull album.

Any difference between it and a regular two element upright hot water heater ???

Any references to Jethro Tull will be smiled at.  :)

its basically a tank with a outer shell with foam insulation between,
it as a removable copper coil exchanger that bolts in from underneathe
it is plastic lined so as to not rust out for a very long time as well.

the aquastat is basically a thermostatic control for a taco pump,

and yes it is an indirect fired water heater, that takes its heat generally from a boiler system
but in my case it will be driven by the heat of the S195 cooling system and the exhaust exchanger
and possibly an oil cooler circuit as well.

Congrats!

HC-7 ! so nice and pretty and blue. I bought a new one 3 years ago to replace my original 1984 unit . I had to order it in at the mechanical wholesaler.  1400 dollars Canadian. That is an expensive water heater! As it turned out I could have repaired my old one by just cleaning the heat exchanger and replacing the aquastat. Now I have a spare lying around.

You should clean the finned tube heat exchanger every couple of years by pouring a bit of muriatic acid in there and flushing. It makes a world of difference in the efficiency.

checked the amtrol tank a bit closer today, after  moving it into the shop
it has the  double wall exchanger!  yahooo!
that means i can use it with antifreeze without worries of poisoning myself or anyone else.

that was a nice bonus to find out.
