I'm curious about the name Changfa that I see here. My engine is marked:

Changchai S1100A2NM
Engine # 000010

Per the number info I've found here, it is radiator cooled, has a starter and alternator and an electric fan on the radiator. It drives a 10KW generator head. (well, will drive it if I ever start it). It is a 1998 model and has never been run.

I have seen some questions about parts and have found this site:

http://chinadiesel.net/

It appears to still be a viable supply. I have not purchased from them yet. (it seems to be part of the old Hardy Diesel outfit)

1100 series, i believe it is also indirect injected
probably good for 16hp or so, and probably good for most of the 10kwatts at full output.

should be a good engine, basically a bigger brother of the 195, sharing many of the same parts
and basically about the same physical size.

What Bob said, my Xing Dong s1100 is rated 16 hp @ 2000 rpm and is a 97 model. I have a direct driven 12kw head and I run out of motor before I run out of generator. Dig around here, look for Walla Walla Xing Dong I have posted some pics of the thing with the head off and the whole jumbled up mess that I call a genset.

If my memory serves me correctly....

S1100NM

S = Single
1100 = Size
N = Radiator
M = electric start

If the prefix had a "Z" (eg: SZ1100NM) it would mean Direct Injection

Most likely your engine is IDI

That China diesel bunch is really proud of their stuff. Personally, I can't see myself paying $35.00 for the old copper sandwich head gasket then shipping on top of that. IIRC mine from Gaskets to Go was about $15 including shipping.
There is a Chinese guy on the left coast that supposedly can get parts too, but I don't know if his prices are any better. Probably not on small orders. I was hoping the "group buy" would address this problem, but I guess it fell through.

Your engine is a Changchai brand, that is the brand name of your engine.  I have a Changchai S1100A2NM also, it should be exacatly like yours.  It is a idi engine with swirl combustion chamber.

I will be sending you a copy of the two manuals for this engine.

Changfa is a brand name, just like ford or chevy, they are both cars but different brands.

Thanks everyone. Barring some disaster, it will probably be spring before I get to hear this lady run. I'll be looking forward to the manual, flywheel, and I'll make it into a PDF and post it here. In the meantime, I'll be reading and planning my setup and installation. This generator will be the backup for our solar/wind installation.

NevadaBlue,

You probably have a good engine. What I would do before you fire it up is check the fasteners inside the gearcase cover. Read: Preperation before putting Changfa type engines in service. http://www.microcogen.info/index.php?topic=285.0

My Chang Chai ZS1110 has been a good unit. No problems so far, I have had it over a year and use it pretty regularly. I have not had the engine apart ever.... I should probably do an "Annual inspection" (like an airplane) and see how things inside are holding up.
