The power's out and I'm running my internet/phone stuff from a little Harbor Freight 2-stroke genny (I'm on call this week and have to be reachable). If it stays out I'll have to drag the 3600rpm screamer from the shed. Need to get the 'roid going! ;-)

If It's one of those little 800W things that are branded under 1000 names, They aren't all that bad.
I have one and have run it for days at a time powering computers for my onsite work and the thing has been great. I was amazed how economical for a 2 stroke as well.
Quiet as a grave as well and what noise they do make is all low frequency and soon dissipates with a little distance.
At home I can have it running and walk away a bit and you can't hear it. One of the diesels or larger petrols running there is no where you can put them and escape the noise and I have a larger than average suburban block.

If you are only going to be powering light loads, I'd stick to using that rather than a bigger machine that will make more noise and almost certainly use more fuel for the same minimal output.
