Hi all,
I recently traded a snowblower for this Kohler generator. Its a Com6 with a propane or NG 2 cyl. mated to a pma, originally for telecom backup.
To bad it's a 24volt as my solar setup is 48volt.
Anyone know anything about the pma that they used in these?
Just messing with it a little I could get 30volts but anything higher and the automatic controller shuts it down.(approx 2000 rpm on the gen shaft)
It would be nice if it would work for 48volts ,but I have no idea of the rpm rating of the pma if a person were to separate it from the the kohler and belt drive it with a small diesel.I just happen to have another 2TNV Yanmar sitting here.
The pma has 6 heavy leads out of it that are then spliced into 3 that connect to the rectifier.I think its wired parallel star but I'm no expert on that.
Anyways any insight would be appreciated. This is the manual  http://www.alpha.com/Media/documents/Com%206%20TP5863.pdf
Thanks

check the generator head itself, see if it is a 6phase head

if so it probably feeds two separate 3phase rectifiers of which the outputs are in parallel for 24 volt operation.

it might be that you can reconnect the two outputs in series for 48volt operation, however you still have the control and regulator system to contend with.

you might contact the manufacture to see if it can be setup as a 48volt unit, and what it would take to do it.
