Yeah, I too tried to log in.  Came here to see if
a.  this site was down too
b.  What happened might have been posted

Since the merger of the ADM for both forums, it has been nice to have it up.  Crappy time to fail though

How come there are always more posts here about LEF not working than there are on LEF when it IS working  ???  ;)  ;D

Squeaky wheel! Nothing to complain about when things are working good!

As a complete newcomer here I don't want to ruffle any feathers, but;

Why are there two forums anyway?  Especially as they seem run by the same folks and they have the same membership?

I'm sure there is a lot of great info on LEF, perhaps merge the old threads?
Invaluable information stored on LEF

Ade,

If there is something we can do about reliability of that forum hosting plan or provider, I vote to make the needed changes! What about a mirror site for times like these? Please let me know if finances could be a factor and we can talk. There are vast resources out there to ensure a reliable and stable platform... let's use them! I have several domains hosted on relatively low-cost services and we do not have any down-time.

Everyone,
I can assure you that no information on the LEF will be lost. It is backed up in a timely manner. I can say the forum is much better off than it was in the past. There are no problems with finances.
Since LEF was turned over the forum has been very reliable until now. Hardware issues do happen.

I understand all your concerns, Do not worry, The LEF will be back up.

Please be patient.

Henry

Are we relying on only a single server such that when it fails the whole thing has to be rebuilt? And if this is the case, can we do something about it? A little of the background detail could help!

We are patient, but also interested in providing good solutions! Why not some mirror servers as a fall-back?

Gents,

The VPS host I use, daily.co.uk, suffered a series of unexpected hardware failures. Any one failure would have been handled seamlessly and without interruption, but the three together caused a total outage.

If you're interested in what happened and when, please go to http://dailystatus.co.uk.

The VPS is now claiming to be back online, but it remains unresponsive. I will e-mail Daily today to find out if there's anything short of a hard reboot will fix it.

The VPS is now back online, as is LEF, etc.

This unexpected downtime should never happen again...

Cheers,
Ade.

Thanks for that Ade! Unfortunate timing for the downtime and pretty weird cascade of failures I would have to say!

Perhaps a good reason to mirror the site with another provider?
