Hi Guys...

My Deutz Fl 411 engine is bolted to a Lima 3kw 120/240 genset. After many years of use it is burning oil at 4L a day..
Parts are expensive... a starter is $1100 , Rings and gaskets have to be imported from Germany.

I am considering changing the engine to another brand...
Does anybody have any experiance with changing this engine out?

No experience, but lets start at the beginning . . .

How does the engine drive the generatr head?  Does the Generator head bolt directly to the engine - in which case, I would think, you have a one bearing head and need an engine that will align/line-up exactly with the generator, since the engine effectively provides one of the bearings.

If there is a space between the engine and the generator (almost never in a commercial unit) then you probably have a two bearing head and hooking up a different engine to it is less of a problem.

More info please!  Model number for the generator would help, also!

You have just started the conversation!
