sorry for the inconvenience folks, i am still learning the software for this forum
the file size has been doubled so we should be good to go a while longer before it has to
be adjusted again.

meantime it looks like i need to check into how much space this forum has to expand into
before an upgrade package has to be purchased.

the hope of course is it will be a while before that is necessary.

Are we talking hard drive space with the hosting provider?

No - SMF imposes a limit (optionally) on uploads. That's what got hit the other day.

I have never worked with a hosting provider but it seems to me that hard drive space is silly cheap these days and I am surprised that we would already run into limits. I can see running into a total free traffic / bandwidth kind of limit but then we would no longer be able to connect at all.

It depends... the v-server I hire has a 10GB virtual disk; you pay extra for more GBs, upto about 50 IIRC which is the max. One of my clients has a real server (with Rackspace), and that has more hard disk space than we can even trouble, despite running several websites, and even a long-running demo of a reporting product who's database just keeps on growing.
