The natural gas around here contains methane and sulphur dioxide, and that stinks.

Commercial and synthetic natural gas contains mainly ethane and methane, which does smell a bit on it's own - even though it's always said to be odorless - I can smell it. But I know what to "smell for" ;D.

As far as I know, all commercial natural gas in the US and Canada has to have a stenchant - ethyl mercaptan - added to it before it can be sold. even if it's your own well, and you only sell it to your neighbor.

Quite honestly the idea of having a gas well has intrigued me so much that I did a bunch of research into landfill gas and tried to purchase a closed landfill from the county.  ;D I have to drive by the city's sewage lagoons on my way home and I always wonder how much "fuel" they are wasting not having some sort of methane digester... ::)
