They were probably not thinking at all. The same thing I was doing at 16 when I shot that cutting torch jet in that thinner can........
then lit it.
At that time, I didn't know that a 1 gallon square can could move that fast, that thing went yonder!

I guess I shouldn't even mention the time I tried to kill a spider with starting fluid and a torch........under a gas can.  ;D ::) ??? :o

Come to think of it, it's rather amazing that I still hav 10 fingers, 10 toes, and 2 eyes.... :P

In retrospect it is actually quite amazing that those of our generation actually survived our youth, many of us totally unscathed.

Two early teens, best friends sharing a sense of adventure. The one who owns a .177 air rifle discovers a box of WW-II .303 shells in his folk's basement and they conduct an experiment which involved clamping the projectile end of a shell in a small metal vice out in the backyard while they take turns trying to hit the firing cap end at about 20 feet with the pellet rifle.  Didn't take long before one of these sharpshooters succeeds.  With the sound of a high speed shell casing zinging past one of their heads in what one might certainly consider a very close call, the experiment is quickly terminated.   :o

I'm just glad eyebrows grow back quickly. You never realize how useful your eye lashes are until they go missing for a little while after an 'experiment'.... ::)

Even perfectly reasonable actions can really screw with you. Case in point, I added some Bar's Leak Stop to Thumper today. This is the second treatment to fix the leaks that the first treatment didn't catch. Tonight I ran the engine and realized I had a coolant circulation issue. I suspected the thermostat for a number of reasons and replaced it .... no joy. This is where I stopped because the next thought was a coolant pump problem and I was not going to deal with that today.
As I cleaned myself up, it dawned on me that I have a filter in the coolant line that is just downstream of the point where I introduced the chemicals. A good portion of the chemicals are a granular material. I am betting money that the filter is totally plugged up with these chemical pellets and that is why the engine starts boiling, sometimes almost immediately and sometimes after quite a while. The chunks move about and sometimes there is enough room for flow and sometimes there isn't.
DUUUUHHHHHH !!!!!

PS.: Sorry to get even further away from the topic

Jens, I think the topic of this thread has become "Does the big guy really look after drunkards and fools or is their survival blind luck"? so i wouldnt worry too much.

The crystals in the bars leak should dissolve once hot but checking that filter would be a good move. The fact that the engine sometimes boils very quickly makes me suspicious that there is combustion gas leak into the coolant that can percolate the water out even below boiling temperature and even the bubbles presence if not boiling creates a big decrease in coolants heat transfer. Combustion pressure is ~2000 psi or up. Coolant may not leak in the other direction. There is enough flex in the casting that sealing with a stop leak may be a hit and miss condition; now it does, now it dont.

I was going to say that Barr's Leaks has a component that resembles pelletized livestock feed that never dissolves completely.
On the other hand, it's really good at what it was designed for, it has been holding the radiator leak in my 57 Chevy for 30 years.
It's not driven a lot.
