I'd never heard of a Murphy either. The little bit of research I did tells me they have a reputation (like a Lister) of running forever!

A friend of mine has a 6 cylinder Murphy engine here in the UK, its WW2 vintage, as well as being large (at least 4 tons) its quite a  sophisicated engine with 4 valves per cylinder and mechanical unit injectors a`la Cummins system.

Sounds like "murphy's" were ahead of there time. Dual Overhead Cams, 4 Valves per cylinder WW2 era!
