ST and transformer question

OK Since my 15KW ST doesnt like to be operated in 220V mode ( I have to assume that the vibration and noise is no good long term?) I am thinking about wiring it for for 110V only and then using a transformer to get back up to the 220V I need to run the house. It is my understanding that most transformers work both ways, meaning that depending on which winding you feed the same transformer can step up or down, is that correct? The cost of a new transformer is prohibative but used abounds here in the rust belt for relatively cheap money
Here is an example I found for $150. Would this one work to step up a 15KW ST head from 110V to 220V for my usage?

Transformers can be used as you describe (Interchange Pri & Sec Windings) we have quite a few in use at work wired that way... Works fine.
