I'm looking at buying a used military gererator. It is a MEP 004A diesel powered Genset.
With the risk of someone buying it out from under me here are the links.
Of course, if one of you do buy it then I'll know they are good outfits. ;D

What is your guy's opinion of these machines?
Thanks .... Ken Gardner

Ken,

Have you ever heard one of those run?  You might do some checking and find out if it's liquid or air cooled.  If it's air cooled, imagine shaking a coffee can full of rocks in both hands right next to your ear.  Proceed with caution.

You might read up on these on Smokstak.com.

Seems to me that they have quite a bit of info on surplus military gensets.

I've tried to buy several of them at auction but haven't been that serious about them.  They seem pretty nice!

Most have Onan heads on them...

It looks like the engine is rated as 45hp and is obviously de-rated for the application.  Good if you run it flat out, but probably not so good if you don't need near 15kw.

I have been watching for the FERMONT brand gensets.   There were some made in the 5-15kw segment.  They tend to be relatively new (2003) and appeared to have Kubota turbo diesel engines.   They very seldom come up for sale and if it is just 1 the bidding tends to be furious.
