Anyone know if one is available and what size it is?

A part number (and maybe price) would be great!

I'm thinking that perhaps running a 4 pole alternator direct drive at 1800 rpm might just be the Cat's meow....   :)

Yes, I realize that the output would be lower than if run at 3600 or the peak torque point at 2400, but so would the fuel consumption, wear, noise, etc...

I bet it would still be good for 6 - 8 kw...  (guessing here)

It also would be MUCH nicer to live with from a noise standpoint.

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

The small Cat will only put out around 3000 to 3500 watts at 1800 rpm's This is why it needs to be ran at around 2500 to 2600 to put out around 5000 to 5500 watts. These are probably conservative numbers but it is in the ball park on what to expect from these engines.

An sae flywheel and bellhousing is available in Europe through Perkins but be prepaired to pay big bucks. Well over $800.00 for both. Oh, and then there is shipping.

Volvo Marine, also has an SAE housing...Model #...old style is the 2010 if you can find it used(they been around for about 9 years)...new model is DF-13 only been around 2 years, most dealers don't stock parts bc it's so new.

Also Northstar builds an 1800rpm/6 k from the the next up in the line up...the 3 banger perky\cat/volvo, uses the same SAE Housing, and flywheel.

Perkins sold the three banger going back 10 years...it's titled the 100 series(old style...400 series new style). Try TA Diesel...they have a good sized bone yard.

Also countlees tractor have been using various version of these same engines going back 15 years, Ford, Chalmers...just to name a couple.

JUST REMEMBER..it doesn't matter what came first, as long as you got chickens & eggs.

Thanks guys!

I'll check it out.

I figured the output would be less, but the lower noise level and wear just might make it worth it.

Just brainstorming...

Just make sure the sae flywheel is for the 2 cylinder diesel. The 3 cylinder flywheel could could be counterweighted differant.
