With a bit of free time over the break, I commissioned my S195 for her maiden run.
- Filled the sump with 10W-30 diesel oil (threw a few rare earth magnets into the sump).
- Mounted a temporary fuel tank
- Mounted the original radiator (temporary until hopper plate and remote radiator system is finished)
- Wired up the starter and ignition key

Funny thing happened...after wiring the ignition, I thought I would turn the key to the start position for a split second just to bump the starter and make sure everything was wired correctly. The "bump" took the piston through one compression stroke and the darn thing fired up unexpectedly !. Seemed to have ignited the assembly oil present in the cylinder. Took me by surprise  :o
She ran for about 5 seconds and stopped. Then would not start again until I properly bled the fuel system.

Once I got her running, it took a minute or two to clear her throat and she settled into a nice smooth rumble.
The governor is set to 1300 rpm on this engine because I have noise constraints.
At 1300 she purr's nicely at 83 bd. and drives a generator head from the flywheel at 3600 rpm.
Because of the low operating speed, I am limited to producing a max. of 2.5 kw but for battery bank charging that is quite acceptable.
At 1300 rpm she ticks over like a Swiss watch.

Here is a couple of videos showing her maiden run...
1] Unloaded warming up for the first time.
2] Loaded at 1.5 kw for break-in

What a first class setup, Veggie.  Congrats!  Shocking how little vibration shows, with it sitting on castors on concrete, I thought it wasn't running at first!

She should be a long lived, sweet machine at your reduced rpm;  less is more!

How does the Voltmaster waveform look? Is is brushless, 3600 rpm?

Veggie,

That looks really fine!  I like the color choice too.  8)

BruceM,

I don't own a scope so I can't comment on the waveform.
The Voltmaster head has been around for many years in the USA and seems to drive many things without any reported problems. Very popular as a PTO generator on farm equipment.
It is a brushless self exciting design with ball bearings at each end.
The one on this unit is about 10 years old. I originally had it mounted direct drive to a 10HP Briggs engine.
