Hello everyone, glad to see this group in action.

Several Years ago I put together a few of these units, the first was a Coal fired automatic steam turbine electric plant, with exhaust steam heating the house.  Later this unit was fitted with a high efficiency reciprocating uniflow steam engine, which gave significantly more power.  These units ran 24-7 during the heating season, and only had 4 forced outages in four years running.

Later I built a diesel co-generation system, with engine jacket and exhaust heat recovery, again a small Domestic Heat-Power Module.  This unit ran for a total of 9 years, and virtually eliminated my electric bill, and heated my house throughout the heating season.  I kept a good set of records, fuel consumption, generation, etc.

This kind of machine could save much more energy than any of the currently proposed "green" schemes that I have heard of to date, when one considers that a practical machine for the general population would have to be justified using accepted economic criteria.  I think that these machines have not come into general use because they don't fit the business plans of potential mass suppliers.

Welcome to our forum Fred (i assume your name is Fred)

its nice to see someone such as yourself that has built cogenerators in the past, and i am sure
there is much we can learn from you, and perhaps there is something here of interest to you.

I know as time goes on we will have lots to talk about, in re to cogen and what has been done
successfully in the past and perhaps more importantly what has been tried and failed miserably
and all the "whys"

most of us have no desire to reinvent the wheel or are bent on proving the laws of physics are
suggestions rather than truely being laws.

hmmmm,, sounds like you would make a wonderful moderator for this board?

ya,, i nominate Fred!

any seconds?

as you might know or have figured out, most of us have been together for some time now and for the most
part we get along like one big happy family. as such we are always open to pulling up another chair to the table
so feel free to chime in anywhere you like. This forum is barely over a month old now so your getting in at a great time
in my opinion.
