I started this topic because there is some interest of trailers to make a genset mobile.

If you have any ideas, plans or comments we would like to hear from you.

I will see if we can make a section for mobile Generators

For now we can use this topic.

Thanks.

This is the trailer I purchased back in 2010.

The trailer was made for the US Air-force Years ago. The equipment installed on it was a Lister Petter single cylinder air cooled engine, that operated a salamander type heater. Im not sure how it was used. Possibly heating aircraft's or hangers. The trailer housed a 35 gallon fuel tank in the frame that held jet fuel. Possibly JP-8. The tank looked like it had some type of plating inside so I discarded it. The trailer is great. The trailer tongue folds upward and it has hand brakes for each wheel. It's a great trailer for projects such as ours.

Here is one listed on EBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/114839353365?hash=item1abcf57815:g:E-cAAOSwk6ZZrgjV

I can't believe what this one is going for. I picked the same type up without the enclosure for $250.00 The Lister Petter had very low hours.

The little trailer has a 3500 pound rated axle. I'm not sure if the Canadian Air Force used them. I know there is a place in Up State New York that used to have a good amount of them.

The picture below is when I just took off the engine and other components.

I'll try to find some more pics.

Below is a picture with some modifications I've done to the trailer.

In order to make the trailer more stable I moved the axle back. I think I moved it 6 inches. This removed the possibility of the trailer tipping over when moving it by hand. The modification reduced vibration by applying extra weight to the front stand.

The parking brakes were moved the same distance.

The trailer is more stable when towing it on back roads. I never took it on a major highway so I don't know how it will act. The tires are not rated for highway speeds.

I hope the next few pictures will give you some ideas.

With some steel plate and a bit of welding, that whole inner frame could be a fuel tank.

I was thinking of a full belly tank and I decided that part of the bottom will be an air plenum to cool the engine and generator head. The plenum will be lined with some type of sound deadening material.
