how many brands of horizontal diesel hopper cooled diesels ?

glort

As many as you like.

Place a minimum order with a chinese supplier and they will put any brand on it you want. Paint it any colour, configure it in any of at least 20 diferent ways, add whatever accessories you want....

Even the old school manufacturers did that. There are a number of engines that were sold here under different brands which were nothing more than a different brass plate screwed on by the local distributor.
Of course you have the western brands as well as the Soviet et all brands, Indian, Japanese and lord knows how many other places this layout was/ is made.

I think this is really a how long is a piece of string question.
Why do you ask?

Never seen them around here. Lots however in some locations.

Was the parent design that everybody copied was the "Flying Swan" ?

Ronmar

They are as numerous as the stars in a clear chinese night sky...

Kubota makes/made a similar hopper cooled diesel, maybe they are the one that is being copied? It seems like I've heard them called "German designed" before, but I don't know of any German engine they could be copying.

deeiche

the father of a lot of the designs, Deutz MAH

take look at the original japanese hopper cooled diesel, which the chinese copied and see how it looks very similar to a Deutz MAH.

another deriviative, Polish Andoria, which has it's own Indian copy.
