Hi I have a C201 with a custom 38mm stub shaft to a 24Kw genhead. My question for everyone is this the lift pump on the c201 leaks air like a sieve. I found a lift pump for around $120 that is a direct bolt on replacment .....or a  Walbro FRB-5 Industrial Fuel Pump for about $180. Ill be running upwards of a 50/50 mix of diesel and WMO.....just courious what you guys would use as a replacment.

I am leaning towards removing the lift pump from the IP and fabing a block off plate and going with the Walbro FRB-5 Industrial Fuel Pump I am using the stock fuel filters that came on the refer unit with the exception that i added a check valve thinking that would help my air leak....

I do understand the stock lift pump presurizes the fuel system to around 45psi and the Walbro FRB-5 Industrial Fuel Pump will only presurize it to 8-10psi is this enough pressure??

thanks

sorry forgot to insert links
the oem style lift pump http://www.thermobyproducts.com/product_p/tb-37-11-9924.htm
and the Walbro FRB-5 Industrial Fuel Pump http://www.fuel-pumps.net/frb51.html

My C-201 had an air leak, It ended up being just the "Primer" pump. Much less expensive than the "Lift" pump, and
installs in minutes.

Have you checked the Primer. My "Bad" one had aot of sop in the hand pump shaft. I could stop the return line bubbles by
moving the handle around and holding in the sweet spot.

My C-201 is an early versiion, It has a canister type oil fillter. The paint on the "Lift" pump matches the IP so I think it is original.

Mine has proven to be able to pump some really thick waste oil. in my earlier testing.

i tried swapping primer pumps my roommate has a 108"x53' with a c201 upfront it must be a new version of the c201 as mine like yours is the older version his lift pump is not painted as the ip is.

anyways long story short the swap didnt work. the copper gasket at the base of the primer pump is impossible to find!!! ive looked high and ow and cant find a copper washer to fit as it has the small recession the copper washer sits in, so i dont know if its that or the actual primer pump.

i did forget to mention im not sure if this matters or not tho, my fuel filters are BELOW the lift pump and IP. I dont think this would matter but every refer unit i see has the fuel filter assembly above the IP....I guess maybe less chance of air bubbles forming in the fuel system?

My Filters are above the pump also. Was like that when I got it. When mine had bubbles it would still run OK.

I could make it affect the running if I held the worn primer plunger to one side (Then it made alot of bubbles).
But it still kept running... Just faultered a bit.

Does your's run alright?

mine runs great once I get all the air out....whick includes cracking the injector lines also

I seem to have good compression but idk never tested it

I got my refer unit for free as they got tired of dumping $ into the cooling side.

So heres an update...i bought a new primer pump cost was $12.50 and they one of only 2 companies i could find parts for ripped me off on shipping....$18.50 for a 2 ounce part! kinda upset about that one but just watch it if you have to order parts for these engines.

so this engine has sat outside uncoved unran for about 7 months now. no fuel supply attatched. i removed and drained both fuel filters and reseated them. I had 5 galoons of centerfuged WMO and red diesel at around a 50/50 mix. it was kinda think still it was maybe 40 out. so i hit the primer about 50 times to get the filters filled and fuel up to the ip. i only had to crack the bleeder twice. second time i cracked the bleeder she came to life. runs great now. in about a week or two till go out and try to fire her up....hope all is cured

on a side note...i have tried on several occasions to start this c201 without using the glow plugs. I cant seem to get her to fire, once was even a +100 day. is this the case for these idi engines?

Mine would not fire without the Glow Plugs.... Seems to Like a Minimum of about 30 seconds, It will start with less
but runs kinda dirty for awhile when I do.

I do not know what kind of shape mine is in, But it does not seem to consume oil and runs nice and clean when warm.

fired her up again, i think i may still have a slight air leak at the IP bleeder, but have not seen a new bleeder online with the c201 parts. im hoping it is just using NTP threads so i can just get a petcock or block off plug to fix this problem.

as for the glow plugs this time i lit them up for maybe 10 secods im running a 50/50 mix red diesel/centerfuged WMO no issues besides a bit smoky at start buy it seems to burn well and run well.

i plan on purchasing fattywagons injection line heaters, heated fuel tank pickup and a heated fuel line. I like the idea of using coolant to heat the fuel pickup and fuel line. i have a ~60 gallon fuel tank. does anyone have any experience with these heaters?
