I was just on another thread and had one of those learning experiences.

I'd order one for the new small portable diesel genset I recently built so I can easily monitor frequency (setting engine speed) and load

This is just like color coded romex house wiring.  What a great idea!  Now how do I maintain this delusion of being a sharp Crayola and not thinking of this all by myself.  Killawatt devices as permanent device monitors.  The stuff I learn on this site.  Now to turn this into an off the self global realization.

And then I immediately wondered how many other simple but mind stretching ideas are floating around out there.  So I ask you.  What great subtle ideas or applications have you been harboring these past few years wondering if it was you or is this a great concept?

Casey,

George has been going on about the Kill-a-Watt as an inexpensive and capable dedicated genny monitor for some time.  I googled his site (best way to navigate it) and came up with this:

http://www.utterpower.com/kill_a_watt/

Hi Quin,

Just in case you haven't noticed George is in a class by himself.

I can still remember walking into the wiring section of my local hardware store and seeing the color coded Romex.  Holy explicatives I muttered closely by the color code for resisters and other electronic parts.  Black, Brown, Red, Orange, ..................... and White.

And not quite as earth shaking is my neighbor puts his Kill A Watt devices on a six foot extension cord.  Now that's handy.  We have a older big screen.  It's pretty amazing how much more energy it does take to destroy the death star than to paint happy clouds.
