the only thing i am qualified to teach is " what not to do"

believe me i have perfected the process of doing things all the wrong ways, sort of a process of elimination i guess.

at some point you just stumble upon success when all else fails, that is if you stick with it long enough.

we'll have to get together and have a cup, or rather i will drink a coke and you can have one of seattle's  finest!

dude it doesn't matter how you learned!

IT ONLY MATTERS HOW YOU TEACH.

I'm going to guess that most here that have learned from your teachings agree.

I've always thought of this place much like a college course. There are so many things to be learned here that the general public has absolutely no freaking clue about. Bob has been a big part of the information here, as have many others. I am very thankful that bob is willing to share his knowledge so frequently - and for FREE no less!

I'll say I'm a pretty smart person, according to my IQ I'm "smarter" than most of the planet. Bob can still make me look like an idiot without taking his gloves off.  ;)

I'd love to see some pics of this alleged Chevy we keep hearing about!

when i get it out of the garage and give it a bath,
i will open the tilt front end and take some pics to post here.

who knows, when it comes up for sale one of you guys might be the new owner?

stuff a couple turbo's and a nitrous bottle on it, why not?

i currently has a 472 cu/in cadillac engine in it, so i bet the 6.2 would fit

well i am finally back!

what a trip, 1890 miles in an '83 toyo diesel pickup, overloaded, with a broken down seat cushion was no picnic to say the least
however it gave me an appreciation for our forefathers having made the trip over mountain passes via covered wagon and perhaps
4 ox power.

my thinking is the toyo is something like 4 ox power with its load and my fat arse.

thanks to good logistics, good family and a friend of 50 years now we got the load transferred from the 53 foot high capacity can, into a standard 40 foot container which i had bought and placed on the property prior to my getting there, with the overage going into the garage.

it was an aweful lot of work!  taking me about 6 weeks all told to get it packed, moved , transported and reshuffled again back there.

its good to be back, and i got lots of reading to do to catch up with you guys and your projects

Hi Bob
Glad to here the journey went OK, And great to have you back. Does the "TOYO" get good fuel mileage?

So does this mean you are now in Kansas?

Rob

PS Did you get rid of those C-201's? I would have loved to get one of them if I was not so far away.

mobile_bob

no i am not in kansas, i had to come back to tacoma as my daughter graduates in june, and is still in school our here.

unless something drastically changes, we will be leaving at the end of june to make the final journey back to kansas.

i was not able to bring any of the c201's on this trip, i didn't have the capacity left to take them in the container.

i hope to bring a few back in a trailer on the last trip, we shall see i guess when it gets closer to departure.

the toyo gets about 34-35mpg with just me in it and driving at about 57-58mph (it likes it there), however it drops to
about 29 when you load it to within a quarter inch of the stops and drive it like you stole it in the mountains.
following the oregon trail back the slowest i got was 43 mph in 3rd gear running at 3700rpm (it has a 5 speed), there were
about 7 or 8 mountain passes to get over most of which were 3rd gear and 43mph.  not bad for a very overloaded little toyo.

a new seat would have made the trip much more pleasurable.

So you're saying you've got more luggage than Dorothy and that 3 clicks just doesn't cut it.

Did you bring that stupid diesel Toyota back with you?

Sounds like a great adventure and like you're still having some fun.

Congratulations.

AdeV

Bob, you do realise you've just moved to the Lister Import Capital of the USA, don't you? Well, when this container is finally packed and on its way, that is...
Cheers!
Ade.
