is this a part for my engine?

so the other day I was running my lil' tractor (see post from the other day) and the fuel line (from tank to IP) detached from the inj pump, and I guess drained most of the fuel out of the IP (nipple points down). So I started to bleed the air from the IP, then the inj line. Spent a few minutes doing that, put the inj line (hard line) back on. Then I looked down on the grass and saw this part sitting on top of the grass, as if it had just fallen down or out from the front area of the engine.

It's about 5mm x 28mm, and as you can hopefully see from the pic, there's slots on each end and groves down the side.

Anyone know what it is and/or if it is from my engine?

It seems that my motor has been running crappy ever since then, although I did add more fuel (99.5% sure it was diesel) to the tank.

Also, after purging the hard injector line (from IP to injector) and connecting it back on the IP side, it took 100+ cranks on the handle for diesel to come spurting out the other end of the injector line. Holy cow!

yes, this is a fuel strainer on the high pressure line. it is inserted into the body of the injector before the high pressure line is attached.

Boy o boy, I'll have to see how this piece came out.

what is the function of this "strainer"?

there are 2 set of grooves arranged at 90 degree apart. the fuel will travel from the opening of 2 grooves, travel towards the swallowing ends, spill over the minute clearance between the strainer and the housing into the other 2 opposing grooves towards the nozzle.

seen this strainer on all older yanmar single.

OK, I placed it back in (where the hard line connects to the injector). It still seems to be running rough, and the rpm range just isn't what it once was. Doesn't want to idle or do slower rpms.

Is there a particular way it's supposed to be placed in the injector? I just placed it in there.

maybe try priming the high pressure injection line. could be an air trap
