7 yr old MX-60

I have an opportunity to purchase 1 or 2, 7 yr old Outback MX-60s.  How much would you think is a fair price (said working, but no way to test)?

Don't know that a good price is but u can send them to me and I will test them for u.

will outback repair them for a flat fee if they are doa?

if so take that number away from half the new price and that is what they are worth untested and unwarranted.

for instance if they sell new for 500 bucks, and outback will fix any failure for 200 bucks then,

half of 500 is 250, 250 less repair cost of 200 = 50 bucks each

that is all they would be worth, anything more than that is a gamble.

unless you can fix them yourself, with is unlikely as most of the bits are surface mount and the software/firmware is not something you will ever
get your hands on, probably can't even get a schematic from outback.

you might get lucky, generally my luck is not that good

They are being sold by a Habitat for Humanity second hand store.  They are asking $250 or $275, I forget which.  Their prices are not negotiable as they are a charity store.   Grrrrrr.  I hate decisions like this.  I don't want to spend too much, but I'd hate to walk away, and kick myself later.

if they have two of them, ask to buy one and explain that you will need to get it tested
and ask if they will allow a return if it does not test out as good and functional.

alternatively buy one, ask to have the other one put back on reserve for a couple days while you get the one
you are buying checked out.

if it checks good, then you might feel it less a gamble on the second one.

250-275 is only a good price if they are fully functional in my opinion.

there really are no user serviceable parts inside, and as i said outback will never allow anyone to get a schematic, or access to the firmware code
sort of " if i told you i would have to kill you" sort of thing.

Try them again in about 6 months and if they say no again leave a card with your offer and phone.

I handled it that way one time when I found a nice clean '72 Vega GT wagon with a blown motor (shocking I know). The guy wanted way to much $ for the car. Called him back a few months later and he was GLAD to see the car go for what I had offered.

I left my number and said I'd give them $200.  This store is 4.5 hours from my home, but if they change their mind, my dad who lives close can pick it up.  I'm not holding my breath.

The older MX60s have a bug in their firmware - you will need to get them updated.   Bug shows up as your PV's begin registering power production after nightfall.
