Quinn, that's sounds like an excellent plan to me.  I think if I ever add a starter, I'll go with an air motor...mostly for the cool sound factor and also to continue not needing a battery.  I have a similar air compressor and keeping it plugged in and ON addresses the "always ready to go" issue.  I also have CO2 tanks that are used for my emergency shutdown system and for dispensing some of my homebrew beers.  Since I have a standard air compressor fitting on the high flow rate regulator used for emergency shutdown, it would be easy to use the CO2 tanks for starting if necessary too.

Interesting.  I wonder whether the higher density and lower temp of COO would give you a little more "oomph" (a technical term) in the starter motor vs. air.  Still not sure which way I'm going to go.  As I look at the electric starter, it would be more powerful.  Might even be able to crank over against compression.  I can do that manually if I back the flywheel a turn or so.  The roller I got is soft, 20A neoprene, so it should transmit torque pretty well.  We'll see.  It's nice to have options.

Now I have to figure out how to install it without a welder up there.  Might have to hit Harbor Fright and get one of their cheap flux core wire welders.  I've got a 20% off coupon, so . . .
