Sorry guys, I havent logged in for abit.. I have not purchased engine yet. But it is still available I think.. Believe me I want to purchase this engine. Like veggie said pretty rare and most parts should be able to get without to much trouble.

It is certainly out of the norm that we usually see.

You guys know the deal, I /we think we have found the next new engine to add to our collection for a project, but in reality for me, I am not sure how many dream projects I can actually finish.

I do not want to pass this engine up and it has been for sale for awhile probably because 95% of the people looking for generators in my area at least, have no idea of what kind of generator this is.

Main reason I posted about it was to show it here and see what yo all thought of it.
Build a quiet muffler for it, and maybe fix some of the problems with the old style ST head and it would probably be a pretty good setup.

This time of year is a bit slow for me income wise. If this was available back mid summer would have purchased it in a second, and probably paid the full asking price as well.

I just might say the heck with it and just buy it anyway.

To be continued and I will update you for sure if I buy it..

Thank you for the interest and info you have provided, Keith.

Those engines are rare as Hen's teeth.
I suspect the majority of the wearing parts are the same as a 175 single.
so ring, pistons, valves, con rod bearings etc should fit and they are easily available on AliExpress.

If it were in my neck of the woods, I would not hesitate to grab it.

General Discussion / Good reading material on gener...

Any pointers to good books or downloadables on generator design? Particular different types of voltage regulation... I was offered a genset recently with "capacitor excitation/voltage control and I'm struggling to find anything on how that actually works. Apparently it's not particularly efficient, but fairly effective. A general backgrounder would be really valuable.

Maybe I'm being lazy and could piece this together from lots of web pages but I've been trying for a while and it's surprisingly hard !

TIA
Richard

Keith,
Did you get the 175 twin?

The generator head is worth at least $300.00 by itself. That is if it works. My guess is it has copper windings.

Well,
Anything is a risk. But I think it's a good risk.

Find out about parts.

I I'm not reading anything about you test running it. If you're able. Run it and put a good load on it.

If you're not able to run it, I would ask a lower price. Just don't piss the buyer off.

Worst case, pay the price and hope it's fine.

Hi Henry yes I remember the sticky to marshall's in Florida. I am glad you like the engine and think it is of pretty decent quality. It does supposedly run pretty good as well. The guy is asking $800 for the engine/generator setup. I do believe it has fairly low hours. I did not ask, but if they were not using it as a main power source or to charge a battery bank, and just used for backup power it is probably legit. What do you think of the price?

For reference, I posted Masters in a sticky back in 2014. It's the very top thread in Changfa/Readstone/ Chinese Diesel
