General Discussion / Re: Hurricane Sandy on the way
October 28, 2012, 10:48:24 AM
I'm in the Lk. George region of upstate NY and am well prepared. We're expecting some pretty good wind but not too much rain. I have lots of friends and family in North NJ and they're in for quite a ride. By a lucky chance my Mom's up here with me.

Glens Falls NY forecast as of 1245 10/28/12
·  Monday Rain likely, mainly after 11am. The rain could be heavy at times. Cloudy, with a high near 58. Breezy, with a northeast wind 14 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
·  Monday Night Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 51. Windy, with a east wind 24 to 34 mph, with gusts as high as 60 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
·  Tuesday Rain. High near 63. Breezy, with a southeast wind 18 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
·  Tuesday Night Showers. Low around 48. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

If I'm reading this chart correctly the pressures aren't nearly as high as I thought they would be.

Automotive alternators / Re: Diesel - Leese Setup

Wow, that engine does sound good at low rpm. My similar 4 hp unit definitely hammers at lower rpm.

I hope I'm wrong but this fire map from the 28th shows an uncontrolled fire line close to the area Dan describes above. Let's all hope for the best.

General Discussion / Re: holiday in new hampshire .

As the crow flies I'm about 140 miles/225 km from upstate NH. Probably 300 road miles. Enjoy your time in New England. It's a great time of the year. Pray for few mosquito's and black flies. Can't help you with scrap yards there but I'm sure they're around.

NP, I've got the LV series service manual and parts manuals as well. They're all really large files though.

Shims under the pump. Looks pretty easy.
Here's a link to the complete manual. Large file, 13 meg.

Did he specifically say "no insulation" I did hear him say he only got luke warm water 80 meters away. I'd be willing to bet with no insulation at that distance the water would be the same as ground temp. He could easily be in a damp cool climate as well. I've been known to scrimp too much at times when the $$$ signs grow.

The gent did a beautiful job on the installation and certainly knows how to DIY.
That's not his only DIY project either. Check this out.

Listeroid/Petteroid/Clones / Re: hollow dippers 6/1
February 29, 2012, 05:18:44 PM
Original Lister manuals say slice the oil. I had some bearing problems with the stock setup on my Indian copy. Solid upper shells and a hollow dipper made a huge improvement. I haven't kept track of the hours but there are at least 1500 on the new setup with no noticeable sign of wear. I do have a Frantz bypass oil filter as well. The hollow dippers don't slice. My 4300 hr engine doesn't slobber but the last time I honed the cylinder it took a long time to break it in.

Yup, it was some chemical you had to use. Plenty of documentation as well. I install and repair computers in car dealerships. The techs would have a blast wrecking the engines and some would place bets on how long they would last. I've seen more than one twisted con rod or melted piston being used as a paper weight. Some times they would get spit right out of the engine.

I put a 205 degree in mine and there was a very noticeable difference in the amount of carbon on my injector then when I had the 195 in it.

That's interesting. I burn WVO and have a 195° t-stat. The carbon isn't that bad but I wouldn't mind less. Do you have a part # for the 205° t-stat?

Thanks, Geno
