xzyer, that head will shrug off a 1/2 hp load. those were sold in the early 70s and were considered to be contractor quality. i had one w/cast iron brigs+straton that spun 1800. i do not see good quality heads for sale today in that size range even if you are willing to to pay. well worth sorting yours out,if it even needs work. blink

hey all, driving the oil pump off the balance shaft seems to keep the mesh loaded. they do not rattle at low rpm like the chanfa. i think th   ey have a sound level of the lister types. flywheel, was your cam-shaft bushing missig at the case cover end?   blink

thanks jens, i thought it might be refering to stale gas. a friend uses stale gas from the marinas to cut waste crankcase oil. that combo does work well in detroit powered welders that run all day under mixed loads. it will glue up a rotary pump in short order after a week or so of sitting with the stale mix left in the pump. blink

vdub, i used a lovejoy about 6" dia. on a 2 cyl lister running@ 1800 driving 10k st w/mixed results. when running @rated speed w/no load, it hamers and vibrates. when even lightly loaded, its dead smooth. alighnment is on point and frame ridgitity is not an issue. imo, the cushioning element is to close to the centre line of rotation. i am in the process of fabbing a plate to mount on gen shaft to hold 4 rubber isolators out near the rim of the flywheel. blink

adev, do that, and you will end up w/a lovejoy back smackin the cushion element to death before the shaft fractures. blink

mobile b, somewhere in the forums, recently you made a comment to the affect that at one time a 12-71 core had high value, we just listed a 125k delco w/12-71 w/less than 900 hrs w/ all ancilairies, bidding stalled @ $1700.00. what do we do with all this stuff-----wave it over the scale for #money? are things the same way on your end of the continent?  blink
