Here is another source for speed controllers. Many of them stocked in the USA warehouse.

Thanks Veggie. This type of info sharing is what makes this such a great forum.

I am sooo jealous of your setup. Please post a schematic so I can do the same.

Thanks

I have a 588 sq. in. Duda Diesel heatex 40" above my gm90 fed by 5/8" heater hose and flow controlled by a 195 t'stat with a small hole drilled in the base. It thermo siphons just fine. The secondary loop right now has a circ pump and a trans cooler radiator with fan to extract the heat. I am 195 in and 125 out of the primary loop. Works like a charm. I fashioned it after Ronmars avatar but have yet to put in the large storage tank. The secondary loop has only about 1 gallon of liquid and the flow is throttled back to maintain the 125 cool side on the primary loop.

Thanks for the clearing up the rotation issue Thob.

I was always under the impression when you reversed the polarity of a DC motor, it would run in the opposite direction. Now I have converted a 6V positive ground tractor to 12V negative ground and the starter rotated in the same direction. I don't know why. It just seems wrong to me. Have you tried to reverse the polarity? Does it spin in the opposite direction? If so you should not have a problem other than maybe a grounding issue with some other piece of equipment tied to the system. That could be solved with rubber isolation mounts. BTW that is the same starter and drive wheel I used on my GM90.

Rumely started in 1910. The credit goes to Hart-Parr who introduced it in 1907  :)

Automotive alternators / Re: 10SI Project

The unit doesn't seem to get hot as the batteries charge up pretty quick. It might pull 40 amps for a few minutes and then start ramping down to 15 amps in 15 minutes run time. We then shut the unit off and let the solar panel do the rest. The solar panel does a great job keeping the batteries topped off and really do most of the charging. The system has only consumed about 1.5 gallons of RUG in the 9 months it has been in service. Only on real busy flying weekends does the unit even get started.

I mix Vasoline with some baking soda and smear it on the terminals to keep the corrosion at bay.

General Discussion / Re: Seattle Auto Mechanic Needed

A few years ago my Chevy Astro van had the same symptom. And about the same cost for repair. I took a chance and bought a $12.00 can of "BlockSeal". Followed the directions to the letter. It doesn't like anti freeze in the system when using it IIRC. It sealed the leak and I put another 50,000 miles on it, then sold it. It is worth the $12.00 to see if it will fix your situation.

I bought this exact unit a few months ago. Works great with a hammer or in the vise.
