General Discussion / Change of direction

So does anyone think we might be able to buy small diesel engines again. Is fuel and power going to get so cheap we won't really care.

Correct, PEX type A or aquapex. Did my house with it, good stuff. Keep the white pipe out of the sun. The manual expanders start at around $70 on amazon.

Ah, this is a grid tie inverter? Connected to batteries? A current limiter would have to switch the dc on and off, this would make crappy dc which might burn the inverter. I'm still not sure what your goal is here.

Usually the current limiting is done on the load on the inverter, not the supply to it. Can you tell more about what your trying to do?

Alright! Is exhaust going through the shell or tubes?

My thoughts are to spin it up and apply 12vdc to the rotor and then measure what the voltage is across the winding's. With an interesting bridge rectifier setup you might get a nice smooth 48vdc out of it.

What did you pay for this motor/generator??? I'm interested for charging my 48vdc LiFePo4 off grid battery bank.

Mine has been working well for about 12 years now. If you'd like something a little bigger, I have a Witte BD I might be willing to part with.

I've been looking at it too. PV panel efficiency on my 21 Sharp 167 watt panels from 2007 is 12%. New panels are now availale >26%.

IIRC open frame PMG's tend to attract iron particles and do ugly things. That might be a good question for vendor.

What's the attraction of the PMG vs. a standard alternator?

Mike was one of the meat world friends I've made from this board. He had tons of community spirit and created an industrial arts work shop for kids called Wowsers. He also participated in community radio. His wife is having an auction on Saturday to sell some of his "projects and tools" she won't be needing. Mike, you'll be missed.

Just got an email from his wife that he passed a year ago. This Saturday she's having a dispose of his stuff sale. Apparently he had a LOT, unlike any of us. Last I saw Mike he didn't have any health issues. He was a good friend.

That's quite disappointing, however not totally unexpected.

That sounds like a good plan. My 6/1 puts out a steady 3 kw with brief loads of 3.6 kw when the microwave is on. I just went and checked to see what's available these days for PM 48v generators and there is quite a bit to choose from and some are dirt cheap! https://www.amazon.com/Alternator-Gearless-Permanent-Insulation-Horizontal/dp/B0BG47RMGV/ref=d_m_crc_dp_lf_d_t1_sccl_2_2/139-6785606-9829854?content-id=amzn1.sym.5d471845-5073-424b-b27b-c0676f48a016&pd_rd_i=B0BG47RMGV&psc=1
