General Discussion / 3 phase from single phase
February 23, 2018, 11:53:55 AM
Is anybody out there converting on grid 220 volt single phase to 220 volt 3 phase? I'm needing to run a CNC 15hp 40 amps max. Not interested in building one just lookin for a good product that will give me stable 3 phase. The digital solid state ones seem to be priced up there. I also learned you need to upsize the converter about double to get good results. I have supplied a circuit with 100amps 220v to run whatever I go with. Rotary seems to be my $$$$ route. Looking for a been there done that reply that will keep me out of some of the potholes!

Long time no see how have you been?   I remember when you built that generator.

Carl, doing good! Thanks for asking.  The generator is still doing fine at my off grid place. I'm in the process of building a shop trying to get a roof on before the snow. Waiting on other people at the moment. I have been lurking and visit site daily. I hope all are doing well out there!

Jesse, I'm not sure without reading all of the postings but I have found it is to your advantage to find your belt first then fit the add-ons to it. Some belt sizes they make millions and a spare belt may be on the neighbors car if you need a replacement. If you pick an odd length the price will scare you and its availability is hard to acquire. I tried to get as much wrap on the pulley to help reduce belt tension and load on the bearings. I used a tensioner off a truck with the same belt width. I was going to post a picture of mine but have learned photo bucket has become a big pain to deal with!  Thanks HenryW for the how to!

I have a z482 but am not up to speed on the different ways they can be configured. HNEW knows all about them.

Don't worry, the prices will go back up when there is a premium charge for processing smaller batches at the refineries.

Right after they add a carbon tax ;D

Good tips!.....Thanks! After I put a new set of gaped plugs in I'll order an aftermarket module just in case. The price is right!

I have 2 John Deer LX172's with I think the 14HP Kawasaki engines. Super and efficient engines! I have had my share of the ignition modules die. They look like a chrome plated chicklet, and cost 50-70$.

Remember to twist any straps that span open air to keep them from oscillating/howling in heavy air.

After talking to Bob about allowing the engine to warm up before applying a alternator load he suggested putting a switch on one of the brush leads. This allows me to intervene or apply a charging load at my whim. Works good Bob....Thanks!

****Dumbass Alert!****

Anyhow, so the frequency function cannot handle voltage over 30vac....hmmm how does one test a wall socket?

Why is this not easier? hmmm.

Witte diesel and gas engines / Re: What was I?

Where should the engine label be located? It is at an along the side of the road at a 2nd hand store I have passed for years. I could see it as I drove by through the years. The last drive by I noticed all of the other junk around the store was gone and those huge flywheels flashed at me as I drove by. I did a u turn and found the hole in the crank case and also a twisted rod staring at me and now I know why nobody ever bought it.
