Thanks Bob!  Reading that made me remember that with a 12 volt system I'm really missing the boat in terms of efficiency with that alternator...

I've strayed off subject - I'll start another thread

Thanks Henry. There are 2 small arms coming from the fuel pump area - what are these for?

Also,  after finding a good deal on a Prestolite Alternator for my EB300 I began pondering two of them on the Z482 (flywheel) with the dual
alternator version of the Balmar voltage regulator.  If memory serves me they put out 160 ampa @ ~ 14 volts +/- thats about 2.2 Kw each
and the comfort of knowing if one failed, I'd still have 1/2 power.  Am I missing something?

My battery bank  is 12 v (9.48 Kwh) so it would seem easy.......

Perkins/Cat/Kubota/Yanmar/Isuzu / diesel governor

I am a diesel ignoramus....
Will the governor that's built into the z482 or my eb300 (both of which are resting comfortably on my garage floor, waiting....) sufficiently adjust fuel supply to maintain RPM regardless of load?
will I need to add any linkages or components?

I am not quite understanding how this works - now, a gas pedal that's another story, ha

Hey all -Planning my starter battery side of my battery charger (Kubota EB300 and 555 Alt./Balmar MC-614 Reg.) and was wondering what size battery to use.
I suppose I don't need a group 24 for this (?) but I am unfamiliar with smaller group sizes and since I plan to incorporate a battery holder into
my frame I want to size it correctly for a common group size of more than sufficient capacity. BTW I live in So Cal so extreme cold weather is not an issue.

Also, while I plan to use this as a DC battery charger, I may someday want portable AC power. Is it feasible to use an inverter attached
to another onboard battery or is there a better approach?

Thanks

Thanks Henry, that's exactly what I have in mind

Got it, thanks Henry. Keeping the pulley close to the flywheel would indeed reduce the moment placed on the crank.
One  good thing, since the crank comes straight out the back of the motor, seems one could pretty easily perform an "in frame" bottom end overhaul
and change out the main and rod bearings if it ever came to that : )

I checked out Northern Tool and unfortunately they are only offering a 5.5Kw or 10Kw currently, but as i said, I'm in no rush

I don't understand the need for a bellhousing when running a belt drive, can someone explain?

Thanks Henry, looking online, Info on these is a little hard to come by (which is somewhat discomforting) but I see Next Gen uses the Markons so there's a reliable parts source I suppose. I will keep these units in mind looking for a deal

General Discussion / Gen head for z482
January 15, 2012, 09:51:09 AM
Hello all, I am in the planning phases of a genset I am building around a new Kubota z482. (this is actually a secondary gen project but if I have a plan, i'll be less likely to miss the deals as they come up :) Anyway, I am thinking it best to belt drive the gen to allow some flexibility of engine RPM. As I have no experience with a project like this I need a little advice....OK, maybe a lot -Ha!
First, what gen head would be the hot ticket? I know the Chinese STs are highly regarded by many, but I also see Markons, Wincos etc but I am not familiar with their reliability records or other attributes. As to output size, I'm pretty much unsure about that too.... I would like to operate the engine as slow as I dare in an effort to reduce noise - Henry has stated 26 to 28 hundred as the sweet spot I think.
Any advice is greatly appreciated

Thx

Hey Henry, thanks, I have an email price request in with them now - I was not sure if they were willing to offer such details
I wish the list I received included this info so I could shop online easier. Oh well - Hope all is well in your world

Hey all, can anyone provide me with the part number for an OEM 40 amp alternator that is appropriate for a z482?

I have acquired a parts list for this motor however as luck would have it, it does not include P/Ns for alternator or radiator Assy. - the two things I need !  Doh!

Thanks

radiator, alternator and alt bracket

TIA

miket - Thanks, I will proceed with this setup and check out the pulleys you mentioned.
mike90045 - This is just the kind of important info I am here to learn, Thanks

Just read it last evening. As it sounds to be within my abilities, my only concern is if the setup described (Prestolite 110-555JHO and Balmar MC612) is within the torque capacity of my Kubota EB300.
Sounds like it is, based on miket's setup. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks

Never mind Mike, I see now you did post pic !

Doh!
