last startup i used big propane torch to warm up engine. worked well. i have never tried to warm coolant outside engine, but i bet it is effective. it warms up areas that need heat.

That -35C sure is low. There is somekind of intake air warming system on the market but blowing hot air sounds a lot cheaper solution for startup. Now that i know it works. Engine is used in excavator, so it does not need to start immediately. Burning things under engine sounds fastest way to heat up the oil. Other idea has been making hole nearby cylinder and put resistor in to the cooling fluids. But as said, if it wont blow up, propane would be easier and faster. I cant say if excavator around it lits on fire though...  ;D I will use these tricks on next time i start it. Thanks.

How those synthetic oils stay inside changfa? Is there higher oil consumption compared to mineral oils? And is 0W-30 or 5W-40 ok in summer also? Or is it just a myth that these engines has bigger tolerans than some others?

Hello!

Winter is getting to be present here in finland. Just started changfa at -10C (14F i guess..). Hand cranking was too heavy so i used electric start. Started but not easily.

What kind oil you use in winter conditions? And how cold is it possible to start changa without glow plugs? Is there some fluids for diesel fuels that helps cold starting? I use cheapest 10W-30 and it is pretty hard stuff in -10C..

It is very close to tip over with full bucket boom extended. I have been looking steel counterweight, it would help a lot.

Yes, it is very big chain. Other solutions would have cost way too much. That is quite ok. I welded gear myself, once again because it was cheaper..

hello

thought to post here photos about project.

most likely i made first changfa powered excavator.. photos are from july and it is almost ready except electrics. and few modifications to tracks. all handmade.

i can recommend this engine to small excavators. it works fine even at idle speed and takes only 0,5 liters per hour when idle speed. or near that. i used that speed because accuracy.

i have ordered parts  from china because there are no changfa resales even near finland. it is most important thing that you put detailed model and use always part no. that way there wont be any problems. btw prize for single parts are high because they use mostly airways. at least in here. air freight to finland was 30$ at first 0.5kg and then +15$ for every 0.5kg.

my zs1105 had broken pin inside pump. worked fine though. from china factory i could get whole pump, not pin..  hopefully all parts in these machines wont get stuck.

that seems nice way to silence rattling things like changfa. or mother in law.. i was thinking to use concrete plates around changfa in my excavator project. and also sound insulation fabric inside to stop my teeth falling out. it makes good counterweight too.

Good points. Exhaust fumes were one thing why i planned moving radiator, but it is just the way you said. Well, there is no rush with this so i have time to look for parts to correct duct (not duck as i at first thought...). Or make the whole thing myself as all other things...  ;D

Good drawing. It makes all look clear as glass. Better make it that way. Flap position is great. I would have used 2 instead of 1.But in that place only 1 is needed.

Many thanks.

finland.

 ;D Many thanks.

At beginning idea was to put engine in that position for airflow and 170kg counterweight. Y idea is good, if i understand right. My english has rusted a bit by years. Most likely airflow would be enought to run through cabin? 10" -> 2 x 5" and 2-3 place for air to come out with flaps and other Y side for air to go out if cabin does not need warm air? That could work and would be easiest, and i guess there is a lot flow actually..

And... that way X marked spot could be used later for aircondition.  ;D

So your opinion is pretty much that there is no idea to move coolant, just move air? Actually is sounds better and riskless. And more thinking even better. Just ordered new radiator, old one had frozen at last owner.. Leaks a bit. Long stories.

By the way it could be needed as mobile powersource... If i dig up my own cables. ;D

Hmm.. Should i go plumbers to buy PVC pipes and Y piece?

Thank you for many answers, especially bob g. Electric pump sure would be nice and if changfas radiator is removed, there could be good spot for altenator. That has been one idea. More ideas is merrier.

Two photos attached from august. I do not have better at the moment. It is excavators first run and so there are few oil leaks on the ground... Cabin is not yet build because there are still many many other improvements going on. But by the winter some kind heating system should be build.

Perhaps easiest way could be that just simply make hole and 10 inch pipe behind seat to cabin. But if radiator is moved or other added just wondering how coolant moves.. If there is no pump. At photo i draw like a child few lines that should show how long way coolant goes. X marks radiators planned place.

Changfa/Redstone/Chinese diesels / Changfa cooling system

Hello again.

I have been working on changfa ZS1105GMN engine in my excavator project. Now i have been thinking to put varming system inside cabin. And warm coolant should come from engine. I just wonder should i get water pump for that, or does coolant move about 40 inch to other radiator with changfas own system? I have not yet studiet too much cooling system on this engine, so any comments are very welcome.

I am a cheapskate and trying to convince myself that pump is not necessary...  ;D

So that sound is normal also.  ;D Man these chinese engines are loud in every way.

Well actually there is one more strange thing. Once i replaced injection pump there has been creaking every round shaft pushes pump. It is powerful creak and if there were no such big flywheel, it would stop handcranking all the way. Is there too little shims? Or could pump be somehow jammed. First pump had broken one small thing inside. It did not stop machine working, but i replaced that also. To be sure. But new pump has more problems... Chinese stuff.

Before i do something that has no need to do, do you have any this kind of things happened?
