I believe the engine is a Kubota ZB series engine. It is a  2 cylinder design. The displacement ranged from 400cc to 600cc.

They were used in reefer units, some early APU units and some enclosed generator units.

The engines were designed for tight compartments. I feel they were a bit more complicated to service than the Z and D Super Mini series engines. Overall, they were a decent engine. Parts are starting to get scarce.

If I had to choose, I would pick a Z482 or Z602 over a ZB series engine. The reasons are, parts availability and easier to service. Plus, I like the coolness of a tiny conventional looking engine.

My brother has a ZB600 that has many hours on it and it still runs fine.
