Title: Not sure if will work ??
Post by: uber39 on September 10, 2017, 01:24:08 AM
Hi all,
not been here for a long time as life got in my way. I have a question that I'd like answered if possible. I've looked everywhere I could think of on google but no  success.
I have a tractorpac 225amp welder gen, powered by a Yamaha E1400 2cyl diesel, best I can find is its a rebadged Kabota ?? The welder puts out 60v open circuit . I have a 750ah @ 48v battery bank that needs to be charged. can/should I just hook the leads up and see what happens ?? I can turn it down and run it through a 60a solar charge controller if you think that may help ?? Any ideas or comments are most welcome,
    Thanks
           Ian

Welders have an odd (to me) output curve.  When you get around the rated current (as set by the current control) you'll most likely have around 25 volts, which isn't going to charge a 48V battery.  So if you have a voltage and current meter, you should probably be OK to "try it and see".  But don't come back to me if the magic smoke gets out...

I'm assuming you've already checked and the welder output is DC, and not AC?
