Title: Replacing original Changfoid starter switch
Post by: mbryner on January 19, 2015, 04:41:18 PM
On the Changfoid 195 set I just bought, there was a funky switch where you turn the key to the right to start, then back over center to the left to charge.   Weird.   So I thought I'd replace it with something conventional for my wife.

Since it took much longer than I thought to put the new cylinder sleeve back in, I've promptly forgot which wires go where.  (Yes, I'm stupid, I didn't label them.  It seemed intuitive at the time.)   There's nothing on the utterpower CD, internet search, Listerengine forum, or this forum (AFAIK), but I'll keep searching.

The alternator has 3 posts on the back with green, white, and red wires.   The green wire I know is correct because I didn't disconnect it from the little black box with Chinese-only writing (regulator?).     Red wire -- output? -- I was pretty sure went back up to the Voltmeter (?).   White wire looks like it connects to another white wire coming from starter, at a post but I don't know where.

Thanks for any help.

Marcus

Sorry the pics came out gigantic.   I'll have to fix it later at home.

For some reason, I can't remove the gigantic pics above.

The alternator has no markings, and what I'm guessing is the voltage regulator has some Chinese writing on it.   I could get a new external regulator at the auto parts store.

Here are resized pics of this project:

I figured it out.  The yellowish wires are grounds that are attached to the alternator case and the regulator case.   It just took some probing with an ohmmeter.   It's charging fine now.   :)
