Title: Thinking of importing PMG generators
Post by: otto on March 21, 2012, 09:44:25 AM
Thinking of importing PMG generators for resale with duty+shipping a 5 KW 1800 rpm 60 hz PMG  single phase =  $1900.00. A 10 Kw 1800 rpm 60 Hz single phase = $ 2700.00. Just seeing if there is any interest any comments.

Based on what I have seen, I would think you will never find customers at that price point. When I set up my system I decided I wanted to use a high quality brushless generator. I brought in a 20 kw unit that cost me right around $3k if I recall correctly. It is about 300 lbs and is rated at about 50k hours iirc. I have had no luck selling it now that my system is being decommissioned (at 2100 hours run time).
The general consensus seems to be to buy as cheap as possible even though that usually involves replacing bad bearings and messing about with brushes. I have also never encountered any need to re-flash my generator - something that seems to happen with the cheap generator heads.

Its just that the price is little higher then expected.
