I have a pair of these enormously heavy, 33" diameter, 5" wide flywheels that came off some IHC farm machinery which I salvaged the associated gearboxes from for my big wind turbine project.
I would love to have a slow diesel engine, something that makes say 6 -10 HP and runs about 250-300 RPM. Since I'll never find one like this that I could afford, I have toyed with the idea of cutting up an engine that I CAN AFFORD and making a big single out of it.
An example is my IHC TD14A power unit. It is a ~480 cu.in. 4 cylinder inline diesel that starts on gasoline and switches over to diesel once popping. I have considered that I could basically push the whole thing through a huge bandsaw just behind the first cylinder. That would give me all the cam gear and other drives needed and the water pump mount. The trouble is that the bore at 4.5" and stroke at 6.5" is just not big enough for what I wish to do. I'd like to find something larger, maybe 6" bore and 8" stroke.
Any ideas?

I have seen it done. I had a friend that cut a model T engine in half in the 30's because it was free and he only needed about 12 hp for the pump he wanted to run. Oh yeah, the good part.....he did it with a hacksaw. In the late 80's he was still running it at shows. Crankcase was brazed back together at the back.
