Title: Kubota Z482 Power Unit with Hayes Housing with 1-1/2" dia. by 5" long Stubshaft
Post by: Henry W on July 22, 2010, 07:16:59 PM
Here are pictuers of the Z482 Power Unit. I still have some more work to do before I fire it up but I thought some of you would like to see how it is coming along.

Working on the muffler.

There will be a large 2 micron fuel filter/water seperator installed. The small fuel filter is installed between the injector pump and diaphram pump just in case the diaphram pump starts breaking apart.

The air cleaner will be replaced with a better one later.

Some pictures of the Z722 3 cylinder 4 quart oil pan installed with the adaptor plate.

The radiator bracket was modified so it could hold the larger radiator that is used for the Z722 engine. This unit should not have an overheating problem in the 100+ deg. weather we get here at times.

Pictures of the units trailer. I am still working on the layout.

The trailer will be repainted some day.

That setup is looking very nice Henry. I'm still a long way from starting my Kubota project. Those military surplus trailers are about the best small trailers I've ever seen. They're very rare now. With the built in 35 gallon tank they make the perfect gen set trailer. This unit is now in the barn somewhere but here is a pic of my first generator project.

Thanks, Geno

Hi Geno,

Thanks.
Yes they are some trailers. I did not know the tank holds 35 gallons.
I just fired the engine up this evening for the first time and it runs very nice.

Glad to hear it runs smooth in the 2600 rpm range. That's where I plan to run mine. I love that bell housing. Those trailers used to have large gasoline space heaters on them. That's what the tank is for. The heaters were demilled (destroyed) 3500 lb. axle as well.

Thanks, Geno

Hi Geno,

I did not know they have a 3500 lb axle. I had to go out and look and from what I can see is I don't know what they were thinking about when they speced such a the small trailer with such a heavy axle. That axle under there is huge. I guess I will never have to worry about breaking it.

I wonder if I should keep it that ugly green when I finish it.

Hi Geno,

I looked inside the tank and it seems like it has a coating. I am hoping it is not zinc. Do you know what it might be?

I'll ask Don who runs Sprucemtsurplus.com  He's a good friend who I got my trailer from. He's got lots of good stuff over there.

Thanks, Geno
