Hardware for Sale by Members / Mike90045 has passed.
September 25, 2023, 04:48:40 PM
Just got an email from his wife that he passed a year ago. This Saturday she's having a dispose of his stuff sale. Apparently he had a LOT, unlike any of us. Last I saw Mike he didn't have any health issues. He was a good friend.

In a world with loads of hype and bogus claims, this looks like the real deal and a game changer for diesel engines. Your thoughts?

General Discussion / Super Diesel Clean
December 29, 2022, 11:48:55 AM
There's been a random "miss" in my Listeroid for over a year now. The other day I decided to add a dose of Super Diesel Clean to the day tank and give it a try. I'm pleasantly surprised to say it works!

What the miss sounded like is that every 2-3 min of run time it would miss fire and then struggle to catch up for a moment. It runs at near full output most of the time charging batteries. Now it's back to a good steady chug, chug like a freight train pulling a long hill.

Is Henery or other members affected by the outage?

I'm posting this article because many people are not familiar with Renewable diesel. I learned about it from a friend who drives truck for a petroleum distributor. Renewable is molecularly identical to regular diesel and is a drop in replacement. It's also very low to no carbon. So why don't we here more about this instead of electric cars???

https://www.neste.com/what-difference-between-renewable-diesel-and-traditional-biodiesel-if-any

High-quality renewable diesel (also known as Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil or HVO) and traditional biodiesel (also known as Fatty Acid Methyl Ester or FAME) are often confused. They are, however, different products, even though both are made from organic biomasses. The differences can be found, for example, in their production process, cleanliness, and quality.

There is no charging system on my nm195. I was looking at this today https://www.wsepo.com/products/flywheel-alternator-generator-for-changchai-changfa-or-similar-s195-zs195-1100-1105-1110-1115-single-cylinder-diesel-engine , does anyone know what the wattage if this unit might be? Looks like a rectifier and voltage regulator are need too. Right now there is a 10si hung on it to charge the starting battery and run a dump trailer hydraulic unit intermittantly.

Hardware for Sale by Members / 25 KW 1 bearing head
August 07, 2022, 10:21:07 PM
I have an old gen head available. It had a flat head Jeep engine in front of it. Anyone interested in it. I was told that it was working when the engine was pulled. There isn't any data plate on it, and there are 4 heavy gauge wires coming out. I have the bell housing and fan too. If any one is interested I can post pictures.

Long time member here and I was invited to post here about my business. I manufacture bbq pellets from upcycled wine making oak in Hopland California. The production line uses a mn195 to power a hammer mill and is soon to have a Witte BD powered 3 phase cyclone dust fan/vacuum. For some awesome bbq see https://winecountry-bbq.com. For some pics of the hammer mill http://www.microcogen.info/index.php?topic=3809.0

I'm trying to diagnose what's going on with this engine. From a cold start it runs great and does not miss a beat for about the first 1/2 hour. Then it starts to surge, sometimes almost shutting down. Then it runs good for a while. This engine had sat for a long time and when I got it the rack was stuck in the pump. Yesterday I got tired of listening to it (and waiting) so I cleaned the injector with no change. Then I changed the nozzle with no change. Then I put a new barrel and plunger in the IP with no change. I do see "air" in the fuel line and when bled it seems to stop surging for a while. Could the fuel delivery valve be the issue?

The first thing is a lack of fuel, but the surging happens when under light/no load. Smooths out under a heavy load. Next step is to check the valve lash. Anyone have any other ideas. Could a valve be sticking?

Also where is the best place to get parts for one if these engines these days?

General Discussion / Still alive
May 25, 2020, 12:52:24 PM
Hello All, been a long time since I've been here. Still running the Listeroid for off-grid backup power, but not much since changing to LiFePo batteries. Recently I started a business to make BBQ pellets from used wine making oak https://winecountry-bbq.com . Lots of China companies making these systems which are of similar quality to their engines. I just bought a hammer mill and plan to bring a S195nm out of mothballs to power it. Planning to add a gm 10Si to it for battery charging and to power a fuel pump. Has anyone come up with a good way to mount one to run from the radiator fan belt?

General Discussion / PEX as diesel fuel line
January 29, 2016, 12:09:26 PM
I've been given a 200gal heating oil tank and am planning to locate it about 75' from the generator shed. The plan is to use a transfer pump to fill the day tank from the big tank. Since I have it, I'm thinking of using 1/2" pex-al-pex buried from the tank to the engine shed. Anyone have any comments on using PEX with Diesel, K1 and WVO? I'll use black iron pipe for the risers and copper for the flexible connections.

Biodiesel back in Ukiah
Simple Fuels Biodiesel is located in the old Yokayo Biofuels location at 150 Perry Street in Ukiah. Chris Pugh-Ukiah Daily Journal

Biodiesel is a fuel made from vegetable-based oils, such as soybean oil, canola oil or recycled restaurant fryer grease. Chris Pugh-Ukiah Daily Journal

The biodiesel phenomenon is still alive and well in Ukiah, says one company, which is hoping to revitalize the old Yokayo Biofuel facility on Talmage Road and Perry Street that shut its doors last year after an unsuccessful nearly two-year run.

Simple Fuels Biodiesel reopened in place of Yokayo in June, although it's not currently manufacturing the product locally and says it has no future intention to do so.

The 1,000 gallons of biodiesel for local use is produced at Simple Fuels' Chillcoot plant in the Sierra Valley, according to Marissa Jones, manager of the Ukiah Simple Fuels location.

But, the company, which operates in other locations throughout the state, has taken over every other aspect of what Yokayo previously offered by providing a fuel pump for customer use in Ukiah and at the Solar Living Institute in Hopland, trucks for delivery and a safe-drop off point for used cooking oils.

A fuel alternative, the National Biodiesel Board states that the biodiesel product is produced from the old cooking oil, in which glycerin is removed and becomes a by-product of the biodiesel production. Biodiesel fuel itself can be used as a pure fuel or a blend type with petroleum in diesel engines with little or no modification, according to the National Biodiesel Board.

The National Biodiesel Board estimates that since 2011, biodiesel production volume has eclipsed over 1 billion gallons in the United States.

"A lot of people are using it in their vehicles," Jones said.

The product retails for as high as $4.70 per gallon for vehicle uses, and runs slightly lower for uses in ATVs, generators or for agricultural purposes, said Jones.

"It's hard to tell why Yokayo didn't work," Jones said. "We're just happy to be here and selling biodiesel in the community."

Jones said the Ukiah facility is expected to be "officially" rebranded with the Simple Fuels logo by Monday afternoon.

Simple Fuels in Ukiah is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, contact Jones at 400-7409, or by email, mjonesnce@gmail.com.

General Discussion / Ukiah biofuel company to close
August 06, 2014, 10:58:02 AM
What a bummer it looks like we've lost our only source to buy B100  :(
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.pressdemocrat.com/business/2376586-181/ukiah-biofuel-company-to-close

The North Coast's only commercial biodiesel manufacturer has stopped producing vehicle fuel and is preparing to close its retail outlet, a reflection of the perils of running a small business in an industry subject to unsteady federal subsidies.

For more than 13 years, Yokayo Biofuels has collected used cooking oil from restaurants, transformed it into biodiesel, then sold it at its south Ukiah pumps and to other fuel outlets.

It's weathered tough times in the past but a series of financial hits this time have dealt the alternative fuel maker what appears to be a lethal blow.

"We're in the process of closing down. We're selling off our remaining fuel," said Kumar Plocher, Yokayo Biofuels' chief executive officer and co-owner.

Could this work well for a cogen???

http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2014/05/02/toyota-developing-free-piston-engine-linear-generator-for-hybrid-cars/

Toyota is hot on hydrogen fuel cells for its next-generation cars, but it's not going cold on internal combustion just yet.

The company's R&D division has developed a Free Piston Engine Linear Generator that can convert gasoline and other fuels into electricity more efficiently than existing systems.

It's a technology that could lead to lighter, more efficient, better-packaged powertrains for plug-in hybrid cars.

Instead of connecting a separate generator to the crankcase of an internal combustion engine, the linear generator turns the piston itself into a generator, reducing the overall size and mechanical complexity of the machine.

Opposite the combustion end is a sealed chamber that acts as a gas spring to cycle the piston in lieu of the rotational action of a crank. In this case, a section of the piston is constructed of a magnetic material that interacts with coils in the walls of the chamber to generate electricity.

You can watch an animation of how it works here.

The motor operates on a two-stroke cycle, with intake valves located in the sides of the chamber at the bottom of its travel and an exhaust valve at the end adjacent to the spark plug. Several small units could be grouped together to increase power and cancel out any vibrations.

The German Aerospace Center's Institute of Vehicle Concept unveiled a similar design last year featuring a pair of opposed pistons sharing a combustion chamber, but a Toyota representative tells FoxNews.com that it's design was created internally.

But don't leave hydrogen out of this equation, either. Since it relies on an air spring, the compression ratio of the generator can be adjusted to accommodate just about any combustible fuel.

Toyota has not said when the Free Piston Linear Generator might be ready for production.

General Discussion / Dodge cumins diesel question
December 05, 2012, 12:29:42 PM
I'm looking to convert an International pickup I have to diesel, specifically a Dodge cummins. What would be the best year(s) to get a doner engine from that would be good for alternate fuels. I'm thinking pre-computer would be best. Suggestions?

General Discussion / Miller 1E Welder Generator update
October 15, 2012, 10:33:57 AM
Well I spent some time working on the welder this weekend. Pulled the circuit board and tested the diodes. Diode D5 was found to be bad, conducted in both directions. It was replaced and the board was reinstalled, started the engine and flashed the generator and the engine loaded down a bit and it started making voltage at the power outlets. Yay, for about 30 seconds, then I heard a muffled pop and voltage dropped to 0. Tried a reflash and nothing. Checked the field windings at the slip rings and found high resistance. So bummer it looks like it has a bad armature. Does any one know if there is a common failure spot on these? And/or what would one expect to pay a rewinding shop to repair it?
